All four of her roommates had left for the summer, and where her decision to stay had once felt defiant and independent, now it just felt lonely.

She made her way down the hall, towards her bedroom, her scrubs swishing in the silence. Kelly had decided to stay because she got a job at the hospital, and just like everything else over the past year, it felt like things were falling into place.

Well, almost everything else.

She'd accomplished all her goals so far, in the first two years of college. She made some good friends, made the dean's list every semester, was well on her way to medical school, and was living the independent life she dreamt of.

The only thing that was missing, was a man.
