Temptations

Mid-February is a terrible time of the year where we live. The days are short, with darkness descending by 4 pm. Bearable temperatures during the day become brutally intolerable at dark, making journeys out to the store or a walk around the neighborhood impossible. Virtually everyone is housebound in the evening.

We were no different than any of our friends, staying indoors and spending time alone with each other. Like most couples who had been married seven years, Rachel and I seemed to run out of interesting topics for discussion, instead spending the majority of our time talking about our children and household finances. We lapsed into the familiar and boredom crept into our marriage.
