It was just a plain old day for me, nothing exciting going on. I was staring at my alarm clock, which had just changed over to noon. I had given up on going back to sleep, reasoning that I guess my body had slept enough. I took a shower, shaved, got dressed and meanwhile decided I was going to drop by and visit my friend Rodney who had just gotten back into town. He had been away at boot camp and this was the first time I had to see him since. After getting ready, I headed to my truck.

I pulled up into the driveway, didn't see his car, but decided to stop by anyway, remembering Rodney's plans to clean out the garage so he could park his car there. After parking my car, I headed to the front door. His sister answered my knock. "Rodney isn't here right now, but come on in; I'll call him for ya," she said, apparently happy I had stopped by.

His sister used to be an annoying little brat who apparently couldn't stand me, but she was quite a different person now. She had just graduated high school, and from the looks of it, had blossomed into quite a young woman. I felt a bit guilty sizing her up as I sat down in the living room and watched her fiddle with her cellphone. She was apparently sending him a text message.

"I thought you said you were going to call him," I said with a chuckle.
