I graduated with my nursing degree in the fall of nineteen eighty nine, third in my class of thirty seven and was anxious to got to work in the real world, unfortunately the "real world" happened to be a remote part of West Virginia. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the state or even the people for that matter, but it is not the place for a middle aged gay white male, especially one that grew up in the metropolitan area of Georgia. It didn't take long, however, to get into the flow of things and I began to enjoy working at the hospital although I had no social life. It was nearly January of my second year when I got a call from the high school counselor. I had meet him through a mutual teacher friend and although I thought he knew I was gay the subject had never been discussed. He informed me there was a chance to pick up some extra money working as a training assistant to the school's football team. The only real thing the town had going for it was the all-state football team, that tended to keep Spurlington on the map.
