The Dreamshare

Rehanne stood at one of the windows in the private apartments in the west tower of the castle. She had been allocated these rooms last month when her Father, the Duke, had ordered her to accompany him on this state visit to the Elven Capitol, Aldahar.

It was a cold, dark night in the late autumn, the wind issuing from the mountains to the north brought promise of a bleak winter, hard and cruel. The chill had seeped into her bones, still fully clothed despite this late hour; she could not face undressing as yet. A fire blazed in the hearth, but all this seemed to do was take the edge of the biting cold of the room. There was firewood aplenty in the pile next to the fireplace, but despite this luxury, that many did not have, the room was raw with the bitter cold that had issued from the north so early this year. That said it was worth it, both for the privacy and the beautiful scenic views. As she stood, her mind afar, a knock come at the door.

‘Enter' Rehanne called, slightly more harshly than she had intended, irritated by the cold.

Rehanne turned to face the door as it opened wondering who would call at ...
