Savannah had been curled up by the fireplace in her apartment when she heard the phone ring. She sighed, and placed a bookmark in the fantasy novel she had been ringing. Ella Fitzgerald was singing sweetly through the speakers attached to her computer, and a cup of hot tea was sitting, untouched, on a small table next to the club chair Savannah had been sitting in. Savannah swung her slender legs out from under her, and padded over to the phone wearing a ratty pair of bunny slippers. Her flannel pajamas hid her petite but shapely form, but her wire frame glasses did nothing to hide her fragile beauty. It was late, and the rain was pounding outside, leaving tracks of water on the windows. Savannah picked up the phone, and placed it to her ear.

"Hello?"

"Did you ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?" a mysterious, yet familiar voice asked her. Memories flooded through her head all of a sudden. Flashes of a sardonic smile, a kiss in an elevator, of snuggling in a bus. Savannah answered instinctively to the secret code that meant so many more things than it should have.

"Only if that devil was you," she found herself saying, letting the tone of her words carry huskily over the phone lines.
