"Goodnight Shirley, ‘night Doreen, ‘bye Suze", Arleen called breezily as she saw the girls out of her department.

Whew, she thought, another busy day. The Sales were of course great for business but oh how tiring.

Checking that she was indeed alone; the girls had ushered the last tardy customers out some half hour ago, Arleen sat on a chair and rubbed each aching foot in turn.

In her first year as floor supervisor and left alone in a sleeping store those noises had alarmed Arleen, now they were as an old friend settling by the fireside at the end of a hard day, happy now and content.
