Chapter 7: Another Suspect?

While the killer's next prospective victim was in school, Denise Kelly went back to talking to area sex offenders to rule them out. She was accompanied by one of the patrol officers assigned to the task force. Jaxon Grimes was a big black man, a few inches taller than her six foot frame, with closely cropped hair and a clean shaven face. He was handsome and she was having lascivious thoughts about him as they drove to Miles Carter's house.

Miles Carter was the son of one of Milwaukee's prominent black families. His father started out as an attorney and eventually was appointed to a seat on the circuit court and then was able to win reelection. Miles' mother volunteered at all the major charities that benefitted the black community. She raised money for libraries in the inner city, the community's few hospitals, a senior center in the inner city, and for an area food bank. His sister and brother were attorneys in the family practice and a younger brother was the reverend of his own Baptist church.
