NIKKI B INTERVIEW

It seems incredible but Nikki B has been publishing with ES; it was as recently as August 2010 when she made her debut with "I get my cherry popped, again and again, and again" - story that she sums up very simply indeed. "It's about losing my cherry to three guys at the tender age of, let's say for the record, eighteen."

Since that time, she has published eleven further tales, most recently the remarkable "Virgie Part 2." And if you've read that (which you should have), you'll know that we're in the presence of a very remarkable writer. And a very hot one, too, as Nikki happily admits.

"I think the most important thing is that I love to write. I don't have much formal education on writing, but I do know basic grammar and punctuation and I have a good vocabulary and a very fertile imagination."

Q. How and when did you begin writing erotic stories?

I was in my early twenties, with a boyfriend in the Marines. He would write to me, telling me what we'd do when he got home, and I'd do the same for him. He was all just fucking and sucking, but the more I got into it the more detail I'd give. I found that I really enjoyed writing about it more than I did reading about it. As a result, I seldom read erotica, in part because I don't want to unconsciously use what I've read. And I hate to see an idea I have being posted before I write it.

Q. Have you published anywhere other than ES.com?

Yes, I posted a story on Literotica years ago, and one on Lush. I have an invitation to send a story to Grace and Beauty, but so far I've not looked into it. When I found ES, that was it, nothing else that I've seen compares.

Q. What is it about writing erotica that you most enjoy?

I love to flirt and tease, so this is a great way to reach a lot of people and do that. I love to show off, to exhibit myself, so telling you what I've done, or want to do, gets me excited, as in, I get wet when I'm writing about something that was so enjoyable for me, or I think it will be. And it makes me happy when I get a note from a reader telling me how much my story was enjoyed. I've gotten a few notes from women who've told me that they'd love to try anal sex but were afraid until they read my story. I tell them what I can about it, including some things that aren't in the stories, such as pre-sex cleansing, and the danger of doing ATM or ATV. When I get a note telling me that they tried it and love it, oh, that brings on the warm 'n fuzzies.

Q: What is your favorite category to write in, and why?

Slut wife (although I think it should be slut, since a lot of sluts aren't married) is my first choice, followed in no order by adultery, threesomes, group. I have experience with each of these. I also have some first hand experience with interracial, as well as voyeur and exhibitionism, and since my cougar stories, older women category. It would be helpful to have space for sub-categories, such as bi, anal, oral, dp, et al, but we can do that in the leader (is that a good descriptor?)

Q. How much of yourself do you include in your stories?

Most of my stories are about what I've done or would like to do, but the latest stories, Sisterhood of the Sluts, are from emails from ES readers, and a few sluts from outside as well. I have to repeat, I love talking about myself, about my life and lovers.

Q. Is there anything that happens in your stories that you would really like to try in "real life", but haven't yet been able to?

So far, been there, done that, got the tee shirts.

Q. Does your partner or any of your friends know that you write? What do they think?

My partner knows, and early on he encouraged it, but now that it takes a significant amount of time writing, editing, proof reading, answering mail, not so much. None of my friends know, of if they do they haven't mentioned it. Most wouldn't be shocked.

Q. What, if any, difficulties do you face when writing - erotic writing difficulties and general writing difficulties? And how do you overcome them?

Time is the biggest factor; too many ideas, so little time. The good thing but also the bad thing about writing erotica is that once I have an idea, and a story line in my head, it doesn't take too long before the characters are taking on a life of their own, and often they lead me down paths I hadn't thought of.

And, some readers want the same grammatical rules to apply to fiction that you learn in Eng101, and that doesn't always work. Example: dialog has a whole different set of informal rules, in that people don't always use complete sentences, or include a subject and a predicate, or an object or indirect object. I've gotten dinged for that, but I try to write as if I'm taking dictation from the characters' conversation.

With general writing, the only difficulty is to write within the confines of say, technical writing or writing for advertising. I haven't written any general fiction.

Over come? I write it and when I get mail I try to explain what I said above, and about the informality of using contractions in speech, for example, which we all do, except when we get declarative, which is usually when we become emphatic. I will do that! would be a good example. Much stronger than I'll do that. Or I may highlight a word or two to bring them up and out, such as I will not do that. But a little of that goes a long way, so best not to overdo it.

Q. How about in more general terms - how do you feel about the "outside world's" perception of erotic writing?

Depends upon the audience. I know people who think that all erotica is porn, and I realize that in this generally restrictive society that's understandable, but I think it's ignorant. I know other people, peers of those others, who understand that sex is on our minds about 90% of the time, consciously or unconsciously. I'm glad that there are literary societies now that are devoted to erotica, but I doubt I'd enjoy writing like that. I can't bring myself to use the word penis, it sounds so silly.

Q. One thing that I love about ES is that you very quickly build up a community of fans, who enjoy writing to and hearing from their favorite authors. Do you have any favorite topics that have surfaced in these "conversations"?

Oh, do I! Feedback and plot ideas. I have wonderful fans (for lack of a better term) who give me great feedback, often with constructive critiques, all of which I appreciate. They also give me new ideas about plots, either from their lives or their fantasies. Too, I have one fan who has given me some insights as to what I can do to make my stories more interesting to him, and that flows to the general readership. I use him as my fly on the wall. When he reads this he'll know I'm mentioning him. Another male reader has responded to my Sisterhood of the Sluts (SOS) call for story fodder and sent me a very lengthy list of his sex life, his fantasies, and his permission for me to use him in my stories. Gotta love a guy like that.

And it's very flattering to get proposals to be flown to far corners of the globe to be entertained by some of these gentlemen.

Q. How do you feel when you receive negative comments or very low votes from readers?

I know when I deserve a low vote, so I bite down and bear it, try to learn from it and move on.

But here's an example of what I don't appreciate: I wrote a story with some interracial sex (okay, a lot). It was posted under fm: interracial. Life happens while I plan other things. I warned the readers that it was in the story. I got only one ding, from a reader who said that it was a cliché, that it wasn't worth reading about again. Very low vote. All the other votes were 9 and 10. So why, once he read the category of interracial, did he read it? That bites.

I've also gotten a lower (8) vote on a story where the reader told me that it wasn't his kind of story: I search for my boundaries. I replied that I wouldn't mind if he skipped my stories in the future if he didn't like the content that I explain in the leader. I got back a nice note to the effect that I had, in some small measure, opened his eyes in that regard. I can live with that.

Q. And do you read, and respond to, other writers on the site? Who are your favorites?

As I said, I seldom read erotica, but once in awhile I will. If I do I usually vote but I seldom send a comment. As for favorites, I'll just say that I enjoy several of the top scoring authors, but mostly the other female authors.

Q. Do you remember the first pornography you ever saw?

In college, at a frat house that showed VCR porn every Thursday night to kick off the weekends. It was about a woman who was looking for another woman with a specific tattoo of a butterfly. I don't remember the title, but the actress was Loni someone, and I could relate to her, so my initiation was positive in that respect. I thought it was very well done, the sex was great and the story was light comedy, but not the usual goofy slapstick that's the usual for porn. At the same place I also saw Deep Throat and I thought, I can do that.

Q. What's the kinkiest thing you have ever done?

Hmm, just one? Okay, in the passenger seat on the interstate, summer time, showing my bod to truckers, and it quickly got way past flashing, into full nudity, and then masturbating for them, and giving my boyfriend at the time a bj. In fact we were so into it that I got him off three times.

Q. Do you have any fantasies that you would like to fulfill?

Oh, this is going to generate a lot of mail for me! Lots of volunteers. But in the spirit of the ES interview, yes, I do still have one particular fantasy.

I love to tease, and exhibit myself. I love sex. How to put it all together, get it out to the most people, as real as it can be? I'd love to make a candid video of me having sex, with several males and females. Maybe a gang-bang, or an exhibitionist party, an orgy with me as the center piece. Similar to my story I go to a party an... Oh, I would love to do that! But I'm very careful about putting anything indiscreetly on the net. Putting my profile pic up took a lot of soul searching, but in the end my lust to expose myself won out.

Q. What is a major turn on for you during sex?

Teasing: how long can I tease you, with my fingers, tongue, lips, kitty, before you cum? How long can I prolong that for you? How much pleasure can you endure and still crave more before I allow you to cum? (I met a friend of mine while we were on separate business trips and we spent the night together. He kept me from cumming for hours, it was infuriating! We fucked for about an hour, broke for dinner, and then went back at it for another at least two hours! But when I did cum, I thought my hair was on fire! He came only once, but I probably broke my personal best record.) I, on the other hand, want orgasms, and I want them now, with no end in sight. Rolling thunder. So I want a lover who can provide me with non-stop orgasms until I can't breathe and have to stop or I'll literally pass out. I'm extremely multi-orgasmic.

Anal sex: I love it if he knows how to be gentle at first and then can get to hard and fast while still not hurting me. I love to have my butt licked, fingered, and fucked.

Pleasure/pain: in the exact right combination. A little in the beginning, after foreplay but before getting too far into it, then nicely escalating with something exquisite when I cum.

Q. How about a major turn off?

Rough sex when I'm not ready for it or not in the mood for it.

Guys who are there only to get off and leave. I like to be appreciated, before, during and after.

Q. How do you feel about same sex relationships, both personally and as a writer?

I'm bi, and I think that women are naturally bi, and there's a lot of evidence to support that. So I think that it's easier for women to deal with same sex relationships. I do know for a certainty that I have no right to be concerned about anyone's sexual orientation or inclinations.

If marriage should be defended (against what?) then fire all the divorce lawyers. As Woody Allen said, being bi doubles your chances of finding a date for Saturday night. And being gay, no problem. I have several card carrying lesbian friends, but no gay guy friends, but of course I know some. Everyone does, but don't always realize it.

Q. Do you explore these feelings, positive and negative in your stories?

I have to say, I've been actively bi for so long, twenty years now, that I don't think about it until it's brought up. I've been fortunate in that no one has ever insulted me because of my open orientation. As for writing about it, if it fits the story, I put it in. I'm thinking about a story with me and two gay or bi guys, but haven't started it yet.

Q. How long does it take for you to write a story? Could you talk us through the process?

I seldom write a story in one sitting. Correction, I never do. (I may keep track next time to see how long I spend.) I may simply write an idea on the first round. My latest: "Toni leaves her cheating husband and spoiled rotten kids, moves in with one of her work mates, who has two college age sons." That's all I have on that, but it will be in the SOS series if it works out well.

From that I'll begin writing, and by the time I finish describing her, or setting the scene with her and her friend, the characters will come alive for me. I'll write for an hour or two, depending on how easily it goes, and it will take several sessions before I get to the end. So I'm guessing at least ten or more hours.

I tend to write longer stories, over 5,000 words, so it takes quite a bit of time. I can type well, but not always accurately (I may be a bit dyslexic). So at first I correct typos as I go along, but once it gets going I often don't stop, and I have to read it again at the end for typos, grammar, forced sounding dialog, ridiculous behavior.

For me, it's good to leave it overnight, come back to it with fresh eyes and see if I still like it, if it sounds as it should. I like it to be believable, for a reader to be able to say, yeah, I guess that could happen. As I said earlier, I want the reader to be as a fly on the wall.

A note: unless the reader is a writer they usually have no idea how difficult it can be, how easy it is to make typos, or slip into really bad grammar. I don't dwell on the use of, for example, who or whom, but things like the incorrect use of you are/your/you're, hits me, stops me reading. So I try to be beware of that, and for the other pot holes such as they are/their/there, and it is/it's/its. There are a lot of those, heels/heals, peel/peal, waist/waste, on and on.

Q. What do you think is the best story you have published here?

Nikki goes to a party, although my favorite is Nikki goes on a quest to discover her boundaries. I got a note telling me that it would have gotten more high votes if it had more fucking and sucking in it, so I guess it's one of my less erotic stories, but I still love it.

Q. Is there anything else you would like to say to the readers of this interview and your fans? Now is your chance ...

ES is, to me, a community of like minded people, so it's easy to socialize here. I have running conversations with several people, and at least one or two friendly relationships. I don't want to get into too much of a relationship with anyone, but sometimes there's that chemistry, that click of our Legos, as William Gibson says.

In general, I've had nothing but positive experiences with readers and fans on ES, with the one exception noted above. I've congratulated people on good things, felt badly in times of sorrow and pain with others, and I flirt and tease some like the slut that I am. And they come right back with it.

For me, this is a form of therapy, to talk out what I think about, what I long for, lust for, and to hopefully give to readers what they need. Tom Robbins said in Another Roadside Attraction: "Logic gives man what he wants, magic gives man what he needs." I want to give readers magic.

Q. Finally, do you have a website or a blog, where your fans can visit and maybe learn more about you?

No, I'm too private. I make myself available here and that's enough for me, at least for now.

Please read Nikki B.'s stories.
