When I went on my hunt for authors to interview I decided to visit the Top Stories List to pick someone. The author I choose is John J Jones, who (at the time this interview was done) had the top story on the Top Story List. He is also on the Top Best Scoring Author list. Hope you enjoy!

Tell us about you:

Question: First tell us something about yourself, like name, age, and some other things we would like to know about you...Let’s call it a short bio.

John J Jones: My name’s Phil, I’m 51, been married 30 years, have three grown-up kids and 2 grand-kids. I was raised in Chicago (and ‘da burbs) most of my life and spent 6 years in da Army. Still live in ‘da Windy City. (Ok, enough of the Chicago accent). ;) I like swimming, Bicycling, Martial Arts (Hapkido)… oh, and writing. I’m also an internet DJ on DominateRadio as DJ_hersrvnt. So I guess you could say I’m hardly ever bored!

Question: What are you wearing right now?

John J Jones: Well, I’m at work, so it’s a pullover and pleated pants and dress shoes. Ummm.. do I win a prize?

Question: Does your spouse or significant other know you write, and if so, what does he/she think?

John J Jones: Heh… ummmm.. that would be a no, if you mean erotica. She knows I’ve written other things, but definitely would not be happy if she knew about this topic.

Question: Is it difficult for you to keep your writing life separate from your professional life?

John J Jones: I’d say no. But for that reason, my writing life suffers for it sometimes. It’s taken some time to get stories finished (or started) because of lack of time.

Question: How did you come up with your ES nickname?

John J Jones: 8-P Can we spell “generic”?

Question: What brought you to EroticStories.com? What made you want to stay and become a part of it?

John J Jones: Well, I came upon it not long after it started. Had a little rapport with Art and submitted a few stories. I liked the way Art did things (still do) and just stayed here!

Question: What is your favorite part of your body? Why?

John J Jones: Now I know what you probably expect here, but I’m NOT gonna say it. I’d say it’s my mind. It controls all my responses! No mind, no nothing! I think, contrary to popular belief, my second favorite part really DOESN’T have it’s own mind. ;)

Question: If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be and why?

John J Jones: Health. I was on a bad trek for a while, but getting better. I’m starting to get back into all the exercising and feeling better. So I can change it, and I will!

Question: Boxers vs Breifs? / Panties vs Thong?

John J Jones: I’m a whitie-tighties kinda guy. I HATE floppin’ around.

Writing Habits:

Question: What do you like the most about writing erotic stories?

John J Jones: I call it “writers rush”. I realize it’s not only true for erotic writing, but it’s that feeling you get when you’re into what you’re writing and don’t want to stop until you get your real feelings out on paper… erm… ok, hard disk.

Question: How long have you been writing now? How did it all get started and what made you write your first story?

John J Jones: Started with poetry and short story in high school (actually, my story “Getting it Straight” is true, and the poem in it is mine, written then), writing erotica since about 2003, if I remember right. A little later I was writing “journals”. One day… not sure when, something told me to go crazy (the devil made me do it?)

Question: What categories are most of your stories in? What kind would you never write?

John J Jones: Most are in FemDom, and will probably be that way, although I’ve written a few vanilla (like my true one). I won’t write what I couldn’t get my mind into. That could be a lot of things, but I’d say male/gay would be an impossible one for me. But I have written things I normally didn’t think I’d write for other people. But like I said, I have to be able to get my mind there.

Question: Which of your stories is your personal favorite, the one you enjoyed writing the most, and/or the one holds the best memories or feelings for you?

John J Jones: That would be “Mistress Katherine”, because it’s a mix of truth and fiction Anyone who’d like to know what parts are which, I’ll reply to an email!

Question: Do you write from fantasy or true stories? Or a combination of both? Please explain or give an example.

John J Jones: *laughs* See? NOW you want me to answer that question I said I’d answer in an email in the last question! Mostly fantasy. Sometimes it’s a combination of both, although there are only a couple that are like that. “Mistress Katherine” was a mistress I had years ago. There are parts scattered throughout the story that are true. Ok. I’ll give you one true piece: The actual introduction to my Lady in the beginning of the story up until she left me on the SA cross. Are ya happy now? lol

Question: Are the characters in your story based on real people, did you make them up, or are they a combination of both?

John J Jones: I was going to say “see previous question”… but after I thought about it, I have on occasion written real people into my strictly fantasy stories. Most of them are made up.

Question: What parts of "Yourself" do you put into your characters?

John J Jones: Most of the time, a lot. I suppose that could be visible by the end of an interview, couldn’t it?

Question: If there was one trait you could take from one of your characters in your stories, and put it in place in your real life, what would it be and why?

John J Jones: LOL… dare I say… “endurance”? But give me time, give me time….

Question: How long does it take for you to write a complete story? How does the process go?

John J Jones: It depends. A LOT of factors here. If I can get the time to sit down and write it, could be a day or two, depending on the length of the story. That’s rare. I write when I have time, so the same story could take a month or two. To finish it? Re-reads, editors once-over, correct, re-read… it all takes time.

Question: How do you come up with your story titles?

John J Jones: Something I see, something I feel, something I read, someplace my imagination goes.

Question: What is the hardest part of writing a story?

John J Jones: No two ways about it. The final steps. When I say “It’s done”, and it’s time to re-read it and clean up all the mistakes, reference errors, etc. The bigger the story, the more painstaking it is. What did I say at the top that didn’t pan out down here? Grammar, simple spelling, sentence structure, punctuation. If I find one thing during a proofreading, I’ll finish, take a break (could even be a day or so), then start all over until I think I have it. Sometimes I actually do!

Question: Have you ever done research for a part of a story you didn’t have any knowledge about or maybe for a sex scene?

John J Jones: I have done research for toys and some details. I’d say the most non-erotic details I’ve ever looked up was for the Cam-to-Cam pair of stories (Colombia).

Question: Do you have any secret stories you don’t want to publish for the public? Do you publish your stories on other sites besides EroticStories.com and if so, why? Have you ever been published on paper?

John J Jones: That’s not a question. That’s three… if so, four questions! I know… one in every crowd! 1. No, no secret stories… yet… 2. I have published on another site, because it was requested by someone who couldn’t afford ES. 3. No, nothing on paper yet, but I’m working on that!

Question: When you receive negative comments do you just ignore them, build from them, or let it put a negative image over the story itself, and let it hinder your writing?

John J Jones: I take constructive criticism. To be honest, I have a tendency however, to toss most negative criticism from “anonymous”. Not that I’m going to hammer someone for it, but the mere fact that I “can’t” contact them to ask why they felt a certain way. If they can’t be bothered to be contacted, I can’t be bothered to take them seriously. Maybe it’s a character flaw.

Reading Habits:

Question: Do you also enjoy reading erotic stories? Which categories do you enjoy the most? Do you like true stories or fantasies?

John J Jones: Three more questions in a question? *grins again* 1. Oh, you bet I do. Wish I had more time!!! 2. FemDom, of course, but I also like first-times, some adultery stories are good, lesbian stories too. Do I sound like a guy here, or what? 3. If it’s good, it doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. Some can be more fun if they’re true.

Question: Do you vote on other author's stories? How do you decide what score to give when you do?

John J Jones: When I get time to read? You bet! I judge by how I feel at the end, keeping in mind that includes how I handled the flow of the story and what it did for me erotically. I don’t hammer people about format and other things. I’m not perfect either.

Question: Do you send other author’s comments or feedback on their stories?

John J Jones: Well, I guess it’s confession time. I’m a bad one. If I like a story, I’ll vote and leave feedback. If I don’t, I leave it alone. I guess it’s that old adage, “If you can’t say anything good….”

Question: Do you have a favorite author on ES? What makes them your favorite?

John J Jones: Tough question. There are a lot of authors I like on this site. If you force me to narrow it down, I’d say Carmenica Diaz. She writes exceptionally well. She has published ebooks, a couple that I have read as well as paper publications. She has a story here that scared the hell outa me. I can’t say which one, ‘cause I don’t wanna get myself in trouble. *grin*

Sex Habits:

Question: Do you enjoy the visual side of erotica, as in porn movies or pictures? If so, any favorites?

John J Jones: Occasionally, but no favorites, really. Probably because it’s such a rare event that I watch them.

Question: Do you remember the first pornography you ever saw? Tell us about it?

John J Jones: Wow… I’m too old to remember that. *grin* I’ll give you a clue. The first “dirty” movie I snuck into as a kid was a “Barbarella” movie. That was almost porn back then. :}

Question: Have you ever participated in erotic photography? If so, please tell us about it. If not, would you rather be the photographed or the photographer?

John J Jones: Heh.. I’d have to be the photographer. But it would be a must to have on REALLY loose, “unobvious” pants…

Question: What do you wear to bed?

John J Jones: My whitie-tighties

Question: Do your sex life and writing have any correlation with each other??

John J Jones: In my dreams

Question: How would you rate your willingness to try new things in bed?

John J Jones: Pretty darn willing

Question: What’s the kinkiest thing you have done in your life?

John J Jones: Two daughters and their divorced mom. I was in the army, everyone was of age. No, haven’t and won’t write about it. *grins*

Question: Do you have any fantasies that you would like to fulfil?

John J Jones: FemDom, my style (not big on pain), more than one (See Mistress Katherine, Heaven in Bogota, Used and Used Again, and A Lesson in Sexual Etiquette).

Question: What is your opinion about sex toys? Do you have any toys yourself and if so, do you like to use them?

John J Jones: Oh, geez… vibrators.. LOVE vibrators. Bondage equip. That’s all we own.

Question: What do you think about solo sex?

John J Jones: It works if ya have to!

Question: What is your favorite and least favorite positions?

John J Jones: Favorite? Bound, in 69! Least? Doggy-style

Question: Do you believe in one-night stands?

John J Jones: It depends! As long as they’re both in agreement, I suppose. I hate to see people get hurt.

Question: What makes someone sexy to you?

John J Jones: Well, the way they dress, cleanliness… and eyes… oh, geez… a beautiful pair of dark eyes drive me start raving mad.

Question: What is a major turn on for you during sex?

John J Jones: Teasing… make me wait… make me beg… make me do it for her first… then give me the reward!

Question: What is a major turn off for you during sex?

John J Jones: Dead fish. You know… like… “I’m sorry, am I keeping you awake?”

Question: Sextalk. Do you like or dislike talking during sex?

John J Jones: I’m not a dirty-talker myself. I can handle it. Screaming can freak me out sometimes. 8-P

Question: In bed or on the kitchen table?

John J Jones: Yes

Question: What is your favorite or most memorable moment in bed?

John J Jones: Would have been Mistress Katherine. A piece that’s not in the story. I was tied to it, and it was the only time she ever did that. She was gentle, teasing and relentless at it. But I loved every minute.

And Last but not least...

Question: At the time of this interview your story Mistress Katherine is at the very top of the Top Stories list with a vote of 9.61. How does it feel to look at the list and see your story above all the rest? **

John J Jones: I’m always stunned when I see my stories get a good rating. I’m honored and very appreciative that my readers would take the time, not only to read it, but to vote on it and to vote so high.

Question: You are #65 on the "Top 100 best scoring authors with more than 5 stories online list and an average vote higher than 9.0 list with an average vote of 9.07 list" . How does it feel to know this? ** (At posting time, John J Jones was moved his way up the list and is now at #45 with an average vote of 9.16)

John J Jones: Same as the previous question. In addition, I realize that some of these ratings are for my FemDom stories, not often popular topics. In the face of that, my stories are still read and enjoyed. I’m surprised and grateful again!

Question: Is there anybody on this site, who you would like to see interviewed? Why?

John J Jones: Carmenica Diaz, because of the reasons I stated for her being my favorite author, and because I’m sure it would be interesting reading! But I have a list of authors I’ve enjoyed reading and contacted that I’d like to see interviewed! Wait… Let me get a pen and paper….

Question: Do you notice any differences between the "younger" writers on here, and between the "older writers" of this site?

John J Jones: This is why I don’t hammer authors on things like punctuation, grammar, etc. As long as the story flows, and I enjoyed it at the end, I’ll comment and give a good vote. Even then, I’ve seen younger authors come up with fantastic stories AND fantastic format and structure, and, I’ve seen the reverse of older authors. I guess what I’m trying to say, is a good story is a good story, older or younger authors. I give credit where credit is due. Heck…. I was a younger author a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time ago!

Question: Is there anything else you would like to say to the readers of this interview and your fans? Now is your chance...

John J Jones: I’ve received a lot of comments on my stories I’ve posted over the years here, mostly good. I don’t know if anyone has ever sent a comment to an author and never got a response, but I hope they’re in the minority. As an author I appreciate compliments and honest criticism, especially from someone who can make it with a reply address. The hands on the clock often outrun me, and I may not get to respond as quickly as I would like, but know that I appreciate your comments and I WILL reply as soon as I read them! I enjoy writing and I’ll be doing so one way or another until such time as I can’t push a key! Thanks for your votes and comments! And thanks, Art for the great site you provide, giving authors a chance!
