TxRAD INTERVIEW

TxRad's first story was published here in August 2008, since when, he has published more than 20 tales. So let's begin by asking, who is TxRad? Tell us a few things about you - name, age and so on.

Well, let's see who I am. First off, TxRad is obviously not my real name but in many ways it is. It's where I'm from and an old nickname. It's the name I write my erotic stories under. Erotic sounds better than porn and I try to make my stories a hell of a lot more interesting than the run of the mill porn that's out there.

Since I also write mainstream novels, I like to keep my erotic writing separate. This is my fun writing. This is letting the mind run free, not to mention getting all the sexy stuff out where people can see it. Mental exhibitionism in it's trues form.

At 63, I'm the essence of a dirty old man. I love to pick on the ladies of all ages and watch them blush. Not in a mean way, but in a fun way. I've always thought if your were not having fun, then you were doing something wrong. Anyway, what's more fun than sex and flirting with pretty ladies.

I work in the oil fields of Texas and Louisiana. I have for 38 years. It's a 7 day a week, 12 hour a day job. I enjoy it but I'm ready to retire here in a few years. Maybe I'll finally have time to finish up the hundreds of stories I have started but never found the time to finish. Not to mention the sequels that people keep asking for.

Oh yeah, and ladies, I'm single. I've been married three time. Lost twice and won one until she up and died on me. You'll find bits and pieces of her and I scattered through my stories.

Ok, enough about me, on with the questions.

Q: How and when did you begin writing erotic stories?

It started innocently enough about 14 years ago. I was on a job, the drilling rig was having problems and I was bored. I had just gotten my first computer, an old 286. I'm sitting around with too much time on my hands and decided to write about something that had happened to me 20 years earlier.

I had wanted to write way back in high school but my handwriting was atrocious, my typing then and now is three fingered at best, and English was by far my worse subject. Just the right ingredients to be a writer. At least Word for Works had spell checking.

To make a long story short, 283 pages later, I had a novel on my hands. The only thing remaining from the original story I had intended to write was the description of a porch. This thing was sex from start to finish.

One day I need to edit it and post it here for everyone to enjoy. I did finally write the original story ten years later. It was posted here as "A Girl Named Sue" but no one seemed to like it, so I took it down.

Q: Have you published anywhere other than ES.com?

As I said before, I have several mainstream novels out but I keep this separate. I also post my stories over on Literotica. com. I had been there for about five years before a friend asked that I post here.

Q: I'm sure readers have their own vision of who you are - how much of yourself do you include in your stories?

This is a question I get a lot. How much of me is in a story and how much of it is true. And the short answer is that there is some of every author in their stories. There can't help but be since it came out of our minds.

Stories like "Three of a Kind" are all me and mostly true up to a point. In that case up until the triplets show up. After that, it's all my dirty old man brain running wild.

Other stories have other amounts of me in them.

Q: What is it about writing erotica that you most enjoy?

I like the down and dirty, no pun intended, way of writing. Just throw it out there and get down to the business of writing. Novels and such take so much planning and development but writing erotica is take a thought, a word, a single picture and expand it to your imaginations limit.

Q: Do you write from experience or fantasy? Or maybe a combination of the two?

I draw from years of experience and then add some fantasy and some facts and stir well. You would be surprised at how many people think it's all true. Don't I wish.

Q: Is there anything you have written into a story that you would really like to try in "real life", but haven't yet been able to?

A large part of what I've written, I've done at one time or another. That's one thing nice about being older. You've been there, and done that. In some cases, you even have the t-shirt to prove it. I've always said, I'd try anything once and the good ones as many times as they'd let me. It's worked out pretty good so far.

Q: Does your partner or any of your friends know that you write? What do they think?

Everyone pretty much knows I write. Some only about my Novels but then there is a small group that knows about my erotica also. They are always surprised at some of it. My daughter especially. Sometimes it's called too much information.

Q: How about in more general terms - how do you feel about the "outside world"'s perception of erotic writing?

Define "Outside world". There are always going to be groups that dislike, even hate, certain things. I'm not going to worry about them because they will never know what they missed. They are leaving a whole part of their self untouched and unrewarded. Their loss as far as I can see.

Q: One thing that I love about ES is that you very quickly build up a community of fans, who enjoy writing to and hearing from their favorite authors. Do you have any favorite topics that have surfaced in these "conversations"?

I do try and answer everyone who comments on my stories if the comment seems to warrant it. I don't know if you would consider it a favorite topic but the main one that comes up is about sequels. Most of the stories I write are one shot, get it out of my head type stories. I never planned a sequel for those stories. Although a couple of them have had enough requests that I have started a sequel. But and there is always a butt. Finding the time to write stories in general is hard to come by, much less do something that was never planned.

Q: How do you feel when you receive negative comments or very low votes from readers?

Negative comments are always a possibility and as a writer you need a tough skin. You can never please everyone and that includes family. The comments that I hate to see the most are the ones that bash the writer because the reader read a story about something he/she hated. Usually, it is labeled as a category that the reader hates.

My question is why are they reading in something they hate. Just down right dumb if you ask me.

Low votes are always there also. They hurt because one five take five tens to make up. If you dislike the story and vote low on it, at least tell the author what you didn't like.

The low votes that really ticks me off are the malicious ones. One by other authors or fans of other authors used to drive a story down. Sometimes they are by just pissed off people. There's not much you can do about it but it is very obvious at times. Art does a pretty good job of policing these I must add.

I check the voting history of people who vote on my stories and one thing is immediately obvious. Some people, a lot in fact, only vote a 10 or they don't vote. They don't realize it but by not voting something lower on stories that are not so good they are hurting the good stories.

I'd love to see everyone vote something on every story they read. Especially if they couldn't finish it. Jut my take on things anyway.

Q: What kind of stories would you never write?

I'll try or have tried all kind of stories. I'll try about anything. Writing things you don't like sometimes leads to unexpected learning and ways of looking at things from an outside position.

Q: And do you read, and respond to, other writers on the site? Who are your favorites?

I read very little anymore I'm sorry to say. I just don't have the time.

I have several favorites here, DG Hear, White Feather, he's still The Sandman over here I believe. Collen Thomas was a dear friend and an excellent writer. I was heartbroken when she passed away.

There are several more but my mind is locked up with a brain fart right at the moment.

Q: Tell us about the photograph you have posted on your profile.

A friend of mine and I went to Hippy Hollow over in Austin one afternoon. She wanted some sun and I of course, wanted to ogle her fine form nude. We got in a duel with our cameras and that picture is one of the few that can really be shown without going overboard.

The group over my shoulder are some college kids down for a barbecue. The young lady without her top kept coming over to borrow a light for her cigarettes. We gave her a lighter when we got ready to leave.

Q: Have you ever been filmed or photographed having sex? Tell us about that.

You mean other than by myself or my partner? I've been a nudist all my life and never shy. I have movies of me having sex among other things all the way back to the 8 mm days.

My all time favorite has to be a movie of me and my wife having sex in the hayloft of an old barn on a rainy day. The sound of the rain on the tin roof almost drowns out her sighs and moans. That is until she orgasms and then she scared the cows and horses down below. A right fun afternoon.

Q: Do you remember the first pornography you ever saw?

I very seldom watch porn anymore. Most of it is far to plastic and fake for my tastes.

I guess the first thing I ever saw was a movie called "Behind the Green Door: but I'll be damned if I remember anything about it. It was a very long time ago.

Q: What's the kinkiest thing you have ever done?

Define Kinky? That can cover a lot of ground and I've tried about all of it. Now that list that could get me in trouble. It's only kinky the first time, after that, you either do it again or go on to something else.

The one thing that stands out happened years ago and wasn't something planned. Three young ladies and I had a suite for a certain motor race. The suite had a balcony and the girls hung a blanket over the rail so they could sunbathe. During part of the race the three of them were standing at the rail nude from the waist down.

I missed a good part of the race because I was on my knees eating all three's pussy with 250,000 screaming fans on thew other side of the blanket. The girls did some yelling also but it had nothing to do with the race.

Q: Do you have any fantasies that you would like to fulfill?

Fantasies I have but it's more who and not what in this stage of my life.

Q: What is a major turn on for you during sex?

Sounds, smells, tastes, feels. The usual things. Getting my partner off has always been the biggest turn on.

Q: How do you feel about same sex relationships, both personally and as a writer?

I've always been heterosexual in my personal life.

As for gays, I have no problem with them at all. It is their life so they should live it as they want. I have gay friends and even have them over for dinner. Some of the best relationships/ marriages I know of are gay couples. Some of the best, most giving people I know also.

As for writing, I've tried some lesbian stories. I must not be too good at them as they score low on another site. I haven't tried a gay male story yet but it's on my list.

Q: How long does it take for you to write a story? Could you talk us through the process?

Some stories take less than a day and some forever. It all depends on how the mood strikes me and if the characters talk to me.

Getting the idea. Ideas come from everywhere and I always have more ideas than time. I have over a hundred stories started at any given time.

Open a blank Word page and type in a title. After that, start typing. I never outline or even write any notes. I may have had the idea floating around in the back of my head for a week or maybe even an hour. I just let is flow out to my fingers and type. The story writes itself if the characters speak to me.

I edit on the fly but I always wait a day or two before I open it in edit mode. I hate editing because it still shows me how little I still remember about the English language. My last English class was like 1964.

Then I put it away for a while, a week anyway and then look at it for editing again. Then I post it somewhere.

Q: Right now, your most popular story is Bound, with an average vote of 9.84. Do you agree that this is your best? Why do you think it struck such a chord?

"Bound" is a good story but not my best. I like "Blind Man's Bluff" for the main male characters attitude on life. I was blind myself for only two days but it was enough to give me real insight on what it was like. I actually, had several blind people ask me if I was blind. A great compliment as a writer.

"Around Midnight" is another I like because it sets an interracial romance outside the normal stereotypical interracial story.

"Bound" struck a chord with readers because it shows a way of life that most have never seen or only dreamed about. Another thing is the interaction of the characters. They could very well be real people. I did get criticized for Jackson the driver but I hate to tell anyone but he is based on a good friend who is a limo driver. I let him read the comments and he laughed and said, some people have no ideas about life's realities.

Most of all, "Bound" was a fun write and that's what counts.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to say to the readers of this interview and your fans? Now is your chance...

Writers write for themselves for the most part. They don't write for the readers, or for the fame, or for the fortune. They write because they have to. The good ones anyway.
