PRYBAR INTERVIEW

Prybar published his first story here in 2004 -since when, he has published almost 40 tales, scattered across a variety of categories. To begin with, tell us a few things about you - name, age and so on. Who is Prybar?

In real life, I am a married, nearly 61 year old man, successful in real life by most accounts, anticipating retirement, and getting to the stage of looking back upon a life, rather than looking forward to one. And generally pleased with what I see. I've been in a health profession for nearly 38 years, which has provided satisfaction and frustration in nearly equal portions. I also write a weekly newspaper column, in which I prattle on about life and my fellow travelers.

Q: How did you get started in writing erotica?

My wife found this site, and turned me on to it. Not long after, I set out to write one story, wondering if I could transfer a fantasy from mind to words. The story was well received, and so I had no choice; I had to write more. That story was The Houseboat, and it was written mostly on one vacation when I traveled alone.

Q: How much of yourself do you put into your stories?

A bit here and there. Straying off the Trail is pretty much a true story taken from my life, many years ago. Different wife then, but I was pretty much the same. Parts of me infuse the characters of some of these stories. Mostly the stories are pure fantasy, and whatever of me that shows up, the good parts I hope of my characters, are merely condiments added to flavor that person. The name prybar, now that's funny, for I don't sport a rigid 12 inch weapon that could peel a padlock off the door. Nope, that's just a name I came up with since I needed one for this site. Sigh!

Q: What do you enjoy the most about writing erotica?

I enjoy spinning a tale. Telling a story with sex as a central theme is fun and exciting. Much of sex is fantasy after all. Often fantasy is the best part of sex. And fantasy certainly comes in handy when the sex isn't quite as handy.

Q: Do you write from experience or fantasy, or is it a combination of the two?

Mostly fantasy. I've not been much of a love monster in this lifetime. My parents never had sex, so I guess I did come from the stork, and I learned early on not to partake in that sport. I finally got laid when I was 21, married the first woman I slept with, and settled into a first marriage that only occasionally was distracted by actual sex.

After a bit, we drifted apart. She finally left seeking to find herself, and apparently she is still looking. I married again, this time to a woman who loved sex for the first few years, but when her bi-polar thing switched back, she lost interest and finally left for another woman. She was the one who taught me how to loan multiple orgasms to a woman, and I do thank her for that. So you see, my sex life has rarely actually involved a real partner, so fantasy took on its own life for me. My third and last wife and I have a good sex life, tempered by the ravages of age. Perhaps this is good, for if we had met in our 20's we might well have killed each other in bed. Now we do what we can, and enjoy it immensely.

Q. Is there anything you have written into a story that you would really like to try in "real life", but haven't yet been able to?

Oh...once maybe, when I was younger. Deflowering young maidens, and wild parties with ladies tossing their bikini tops into the pool. Yeah, I woulda done that.

Q. Does your partner or any of your friends know that you write? What do they think?

Nope. My wife discovered my stories and she went nuts on me. Figures this means I'm cheating, and I have been expressly told to write no more. So I mostly don't. Unless I get a really good idea. I would never cheat on her, but she still doesn't understand.

Q. How about in more general terms - how do you feel about the "outside world"'s perception of erotic writing?

Nope. And they won't see mine. I still have too much to lose.

Q. How do you feel when you receive negative comments or very low votes from readers?

A few negative comments have been well deserved. Others...well when you put your stuff out for evaluation on a sex site you will hear from people even more messed up than you are.

Q. Do you read, and respond to, other writers on the site? Who are your favorites?

Absolutely. Some I enjoy very much. I like to read the ladies' work, for it shows a woman's perspective. I have always claimed to follow the credo that nice guys finish last, and the woman's half of a sexual event is very important to me. I only rarely comment on the writing of others. I try to be positive when I do write, and if I cannot find something nice to say, a try to remain silent. There is so excellent writing on this site, and some absolute crap. Kinda like real life.

Q. Have you ever been filmed or photographed having sex?

Not to my knowledge. Probably would break the camera. Have enjoyed pornography my entire life. If it were not for Playboy, I would not have known what a woman looked like for many, many years. I paid my first hooker, during my first marriage, just so I could look at her in the light.

Q. What's the kinkiest thing you have ever done?

Writing for this site. No really, I've had sex on the tailgate of my pickup in the desert, in a hot spring in the desert, and in a tent in a crowded campground on the beach. Wow, don't faint.

Q. What is a major turn on for you during sex?

Visual. I love naked women. Just love em. I like women who actually want to have sex. And who show it when they want to have sex. Let em take charge. Having been turned down on a predictably frequent basis when trying to have sex within marriage, where I had I thought a reasonable expectation of some, I really like the notion that a woman will ask me.

Q: How do you feel about same sex relationships, both personally and as a writer?

No, cause I have no interest. I have no fantasy to set down in words. I have no problem with folks who swing that way, although I was a tad turned off on lesbians for a while after second wife left, but I have many acquaintances who are gay or lesbian, so I got over it.

Q. How long does it take for you to write a story? Could you talk us through the process?

Wow, that's all over the place. Some stories pour out in hours, and others have taken months of fooling around.

Q: Right now, your most popular story is Rawlins Reunion, with an average vote of 9.62. Do you agree that this is your best? Why do you think it struck such a chord?

I like the story. It still makes me cry near the end. And I think it would stand scrutiny if I cleaned out the sex and just presented the story on a legitimate venue. I also like the Deer Hunter. Others, well some of the tripe I have written have just been exercises in dialog development, and once or twice to see if really trashy sex can get good scores on this site. (It can't)

Q. Is there anything else you would like to say to the readers of this interview and your fans? Now is your chance...

If you have made it this far, thank you. This life of mine is not a sad story, and I hope I have not conveyed that notion to you. Sex is but a part of life, and I have enjoyed the other parts well enough to not worry about any deficiencies on the sex side of things. Like I said, fantasy is the most exciting side of sex, and I have good fantasy.
