JL's first story was published here way back in 2000, since when he has published more than thirty new tales, including a lot in the threesome and group categories. So to begin... tell us about your interest in those categories.

Partly it's just practical. More people means more possibilities, more points of view, more different kinds of action. There are only so many positions, so many body parts, so many synonyms for the different body parts, so many hair colors and bra sizes, that having three or more people just means I can do more without repeating myself.

And the other reason is that if two naked people having sex are good, three are even better. And sixteen is better than that. I think it's a geometric progression or something.

Q: And then about yourself. Who is JL? Tell us a few things about you - name, age and so on.

I'm male, 50, master's in English, live in Chicago, happily married. My first name does begin with "J" but that's as far as I'll go.

Q: How and when did you begin writing erotic stories?

I first wrote them for myself, in high school. In pre-Internet days, I had to rely on my father's Penthouse magazines for stimulation, so my own stories kind of filled in the gap. I ran across EroticsStories.com sometime in the 1990s, and wrote my first story based on fantasies about a co-worker of mine (Lori's Legs). And it sort of took off from there.

Q: Have you published anywhere other than ES.com?

No. I like ES.com because the process is easy, and also the general tone of the stories: no outright violence, no animal sex, and that sort of thing. And the quality of the stories is higher than I've found elsewhere. More story, less "Genevieve was a 20-year-old blonde with 38DDD boobs who loved giving blowjobs to strangers in restrooms" kind of stuff.

Q: I'm sure readers have their own vision of what you look like, and who you are - how much of yourself do you include in your stories?

Personality-wise, I'm probably pretty close to the male characters in my stories. I try to treat people with respect (in bed and out), and I don't like stories where the male characters are always abusing women with "suck it, bitch!" and that sort of thing. My male characters are almost always younger, more idealized versions of myself-thinner and with more staying power, of course.

Q: Do you write from experience or fantasy? Or maybe a combination of the two?

Fantasy, although frequently based on real people around me-neighbors, co-workers, etc. "Lori's Legs," as I said, is based on a female co-worker, who as far as I know is not a bisexual sex maniac. "The Brat" in a series of stories I wrote is based loosely on a neighbor's daughter. The mother-daughter in a story several years ago called "Garden Party," is based on two neighbors, a mother and daughter, both hot. Unfortunately I've never had sex with either of them.

Other stories have no relation to reality. (Darn) The character of Adrianna Purl? Complete fantasy, though I'd like to work for her.

Q: Is there anything you have written into a story that you would really like to try in "real life", but haven't yet been able to?

Threesomes. Orgies. Hot tub sex. More orgies.

Q: Does your partner or any of your friends know that you write? What do they think?

No one knows. NO ONE KNOWS. It's kind of fun having a secret life that no one knows about.

Q: One thing that I love about ES is that you very quickly build up a community of fans, who enjoy writing to and hearing from their favorite authors. Do you have any favorite topics that have surfaced in these "conversations"?

It's almost a cliché, but like every writer, I love hearing from people who've read and enjoyed my stories, and I try always to at least respond with a thank-you. I like it when readers have had similar experiences and talk about them (though I'd like it if they could include photos, please?). One person had put together the "Like Daughter, Like Mother" stories into a single document and sent it to me, which was a very nice gesture.

I've gotten very few negative comments. One complained that a story-I forget which one-started well but quickly went downhill and became a "stroke story," which, after all, is what we're here for. But on the whole readers have been very kind.

It's a turn-on for me knowing that people are, more than just reading the stories, masturbating to them. In my real job I write other, business-related things, and no one has ever jacked off to one of those. I hope.

Q: And do you read, and respond to, other writers on the site? Who are your favorites?

I like Raingirl. Her stories are hot-and so is her author pic. Thesandman writes some really good stuff. Lady Grey's stories involving exhibitionism, but not the bondage stuff. I corresponded briefly with a writer whose pseudonym was Lori, after my first few Lori stories came out. Her stories were pretty hot, but she hasn't posted anything in years.

Thank you! Do you remember the first pornography you ever saw? Tell us about it?

My father's Playboys. I found the first one I ever saw at a resale shop, and I still have it somewhere. He had some Xaviera Hollander books hidden in his dresser, and I read those. As an adolescent boy, I obviously liked them. I sometimes wonder if he kept them around on purpose to avoid having to actually tell me anything about sex.

Q: How do you feel about same sex relationships, both personally and as a writer?

I'm straight, but I do support gay rights and same-sex marriage. I don't enjoy male-male sex stories, and I don't think I'd ever write one. But at the risk of political incorrectness, lesbians are hot.

Q: How long does it take for you to write a story? Could you talk us through the process?

The first question: Usually a week or so, depending on how much free time I have.

The process: It usually starts with a situation. Sometimes it's just one line. My multi-story epic "Like Daughter, Like Mother," literally sprang from the opening line, " 'My mom really needs to get laid, Brenda said." And that led to 20 stories. It's practically a novel. I really think HBO should make a mini-series out of it.

An early story, "Kiss," started with the line, "With a mixture of anticipation and dread, Ross realized that he was going to kiss Lauryn the first chance he got." That was based on a real situation where I wanted to kiss a co-worker (but didn't).

Other situations come to me either through real life or just a funny idea. "Naked Friday"-well, who wouldn't want to work in an office full of hot people who work in the nude every once in a while? Most of the Adrianna Purl stories are based on business situations because I write about business and management a lot in my real job. "Interview with a porn star"-again, who wouldn't want to interview a porn star? Well, lots of people, I suppose, but that's what makes it a fantasy.

I don't think my stories through too much ahead of time, but since that the point is for everyone to get naked and start having sex, they don't require that much planning. I typically write a page or two to get started, and then if the story seems to be going strong, work on it a little here and there until I get really into it, and then I finish it up in a hurry.

It takes time because I have to stop and jack off frequently. Nothing like seeing a story in your head to get you horny. Then I let it wait a few days or so, and I go back and look at it again, correcting stuff. Usually minor details, like whether the hot babe's thong was leopard-print or zebra-striped, or the color of someone's hair, or whether they were wearing jeans or sweats before they took them off. Then I take a deep breath and post it and wait for responses and scores.

I should mention that for several years I worked at home, which gave me lots of free time without much risk of being caught writing lines like, "As Rick plunged his erect cock into Juliet's pussy, others in the hot tub were fucking wildly." Recently I've gone back to working in an office, so I'm not writing sex stories a lot. Just fantasizing about my coworkers naked.

Q: Right now, your most popular story is Roommates and Lovers, with an average vote of 9.50. Do you agree that this is your best? Why do you think it struck such a chord?

That's funny, because "Roommates and Lovers" is a good story, but I don't think of it as anything that special. The situation isn't unique or creative, just a bunch of people having sex (lots of it) in an apartment one night. It's got a little bit of everything-straight sex, interracial, lesbians--so I suppose that's part of the appeal. And sometimes you can put in too much effort and overcomplicate things, when a simple story-"boy meets girl, boy has sex with girl, boy cums, girl cums"-is usually the best.

My favorite is probably "Like Daughter, Like Mother" (again) because I liked the characters, and I think they actually sort of evolved and grew as the story went on, although of course the important thing was the raw naked sweaty pounding pulsing sex all over the place.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to say to the readers of this interview and your fans?
