JENNY SWALLOWS INTERVIEW

You were last interviewed back in February 2008. Can you catch us up on what you have been doing since then? Tell us about any favorite new stories, anything else you have published, anything else you'd like to talk about.

The biggest thing was seeing my first anthology published. It's called "The First Time and 59 Other Magical Minutes", and it was such a thrill going onto Amazon, typing my name into the search box, and having my own book turn up. I've also started a blog, which has been a lot of fun. Apart from that - well, I'm rather dull, really. Work work work, like a lot of people.

You answered a lot of these questions in your last interview, but for people who've not read it... or in case any of your thoughts on the subject have changed, I'd like to ask a few of them again. Beginning with, who is Jenny Swallows?

Jenny Swallows is horrified at the thought that she's pushing thirty. She lives in Texas, works for the library system and relaxes by writing about what she wishes she were doing.

When you were interviewed before, you were very adamant that you only write verse, and have no interest in prose. You seem to have changed your mind since then. Is there any particular reason?

Ha, you mean the postings on my blog? To be truthful, they're not stories, they're more like expanded diary entries. But you're right, because I have now written and published my first story, it's called "Speaking As A Man," and you'll find it in the gay category here at ES because - well, that's what it is.

As for why I changed my mind, it was just an experiment I felt I needed to try; I've written a lot about first time experiences, but they're always from the point of view of a girl - which is wonderful in its own right, but then I found myself wondering what it would be like for a guy to have that same desire, a straight guy. I tried it as a verse but it wasn't working for me so I just started making notes and they fell into the shape of a story. I also liked the idea that I could place it in a corner of ES that a lot of my regular fans and readers don't visit, so if it turned out to be a disaster, they'd be none the wiser.

What is it about writing erotica that you most enjoy?

For me, erotica is first and foremost about capturing a moment, or a sensation that excites me; I mentioned just now that I write a lot about first times, because ... I think, if we were honest about it, a lot of us kind of messed up our first time. We were too nervous or too shy, or we just didn't know what we were doing. Immediately before, we know exactly how we feel, and immediately afterwards we know exactly what we should have done. But for however long the actual action is happening, nothing goes as planned. Or not much, anyway. Those emotions are still very real, though, the thoughts of what could have happened, so that's what I write about. The emotions, the lust and the passion, and then the "action" just flows from there.

Do you write from experience or fantasy? Or maybe a combination of the two?

There's a bit of wishful thinking, sometimes, but I write from experience, simply because that's what I know. Even "Speaking As A Man" is based on something that happened to me once - sharing a bed with a boy after a party, who was dating my best friend who was asleep on the other side of him, and not being able to sleep because all I could think about was sucking his cock while they were both sleeping.

Is there anything you have written into a story that you would really like to try in "real life", but haven't yet been able to?

Having a cock of my own!

Does your partner or any of your friends know that you write? What do they think?

I think most of my friends know about it. I started posting the occasional verse on my Myspace page a couple of years ago - lol, and then got banned from the site. So now I post links on my Facebook page whenever I have a new sverse published here, or if I post one on my blog.

As for what they think, boyfriends tend to laugh. From reading some of the other interviews here, I get the impression that partners can feel threatened by erotic stories, especially if the story involves something that hasn't taken place in their own love life. But most of us have made up dirty limericks and verses at some point, so it's not such a big deal.

How about in more general terms - how do you feel about the "outside world"'s perception of erotic writing?

I think it's fair to say that probably 90% of the human race are absolute hypocrites, and the further up the power chain you go, the more hypocritical they are - I'm thinking here of the loudly anti-gay politicians who then get busted sucking cock in a restroom, but that's just one example. I do understand the need for society to maintain the veneer of respectability, but we should have readjusted the nature of that veneer a long time ago.

So... what was the question? The outside world claims to be horrified by any form of erotica, pornography, call it what you want - but somebody's out there buying all the movies and books, downloading off the web, subscribing to all the pay sites, and it can't all be the so-called perverted minority. There's not enough of us.

One thing that I love about ES is that you very quickly build up a community of fans, who enjoy writing to and hearing from their favorite authors. Without naming names, do you have any favorite topics that have surfaced in these "conversations"?

The majority of questions I receive - ruling out the one line "will you suck my cock" ones, for a moment - tend to be from guys wanting to know how to persuade their girlfriend or wife to let them cum in their mouths. Which surprised me at first because I honestly didn't realize that so many women didn't... even before I'd done it for the first time, I just assumed that that's what you did, and it would be wonderful. Which it was. So it took me a while to work out how to answer questions like that - it was like being asked how to teach her to walk, or breathe or something. And of course every situation is different, but I usually ask the writer to examine how he approaches the topic with her and the strange thing is, a lot of them then admit that they've never actually asked her to do it. So anybody reading this - that's the first thing you need to do. Ask her!

How do you feel when you receive negative comments or very low votes from readers?

Lol, I think it goes with the territory. When I first started publishing, I received a lot of low votes, and most of them were because the reader didn't like verse. I'll never forget one message I got, telling me that the site is called Erotic STORIES, which meant there was no room for anything else. I disagreed, so when the low votes come in, I guess you could say I asked for them....

What categories do most of your verses appear in - and is there a particular reason for this?

Oral, oral and oral. I love sucking cock, I love writing about sucking cock.

Do you read, and respond to, other writers on the site? Who are your favorites?

No surprise here - my favorites are the ones who post in the oral section... I think I've read every story in there, some more than once.

That's quite a photograph you have posted on your profile. Who was the lucky guy?

I have to give the same answer as before... back to my college days. I'm one of those people who despises having their photo taken, so I don't have a vast repository of pictures - clothed or unclothed. I've got a couple of photos from when my college bf's roommate surprised us by coming home early and quietly, which I only found out about later, and which I don't really like, and there's this little film that I took some stills from, which I use on my profile here. A boyfriend had just bought a camcorder and we were messing around with it, and one thing led to another.

What's the kinkiest thing you have ever done?

I've never really thought of anything I've done as being "kinky," because I immediately think of leather catsuits and ball gags when the word is mentioned. I think so, yes. Do you have any fantasies that you would like to fulfill?

I like to think it's the fact that I'm honest about my feelings, and why I'm doing the things I do. What is going through my mind while I'm doing it. Plus the verses tend to be short, so there's no plot to get bogged down in!

Right now, your verse "Cunt Bitch" has an average vote of 9.59 - your most popular publication yet. Do you agree that it's your best yet - and do you have any thoughts about why it's so popular?

That amazes me, because - well, partly because it's actually a very tender lesbian verse, and nothing really happens, but also because I think I've written better. I do wonder if it's maybe the title draws people in?

A: I have a blog at jennyswallows.blogspot.com, where I publish a lot of my verse, but also a lot of ... I suppose you'd call it prose, although I think of it more as a journal, jotting down things that have recently happened to me, or old memories that I think people might get a kick out of. It's funny, because for a long time I couldn't understand the appeal of blogging - why should anybody care what you got up to last night, or what you think about such-and-such. But I've been really enjoying it.
