STARBELLIED BOY INTERVIEW

The intriguingly named Starbellied Boy's first story was published here in August 2009, since when he has published a dozen new tales, including several in the anal and trans-gendered categories. So to begin... tell us about your interest in those categories.

I've had a fascination for anal sex ever since I found myself attracted to guys as well as girls. Discovering how amazing orgasms brought on by anal stimulation was only intensified this. Plus I just love the idea, look and feel of my cock sliding into a gorgeous male or female arse!

Being bisexual was certainly one of the reasons I became interested in the trans-gendered category, but another was my teenage interest in feminism as a reaction to the machismo of other guys at school. I used to try and imagine what it would be like to be a girl, as since I was a teenager, inevitably this often deviated into what it would be like to be a girl having sex. Later this combined with my sexuality to finding feminine guys, masculine girls and of course "ladyboys" attractive, and finally I started experimenting with cross dressing myself.

And then about yourself. Who is Starbellied Boy? Tell us a few things about you - name, age and so on.

Starbellied Boy is the name of a song by one of my favourite bands, Bikini Kill, though I'm not sure they'd like my writing. My name is Jack, I'm 25 years old and from the UK as readers may notice from my spelling. Though an active bisexual in the past, I'm currently in a long term relationship with a girl.

How and when did you begin writing erotic stories?

I began writing when I was about 15, I suppose as an outlet for the usual high sexual drive of a teenager. We only had one computer at home, so watching porn was only possible late at night, early in the morning and when everyone else was out, whereas writing was easier to disguise as something else like homework. I had (and still have) a very active imagination, so I often wasn't satisfied by what I found elsewhere. Plus I wasn't so great at talking to girls or boys, so I tended to live in my imagination.

Have you published anywhere other than ES.com?

I have published on several other sites, in fact the stories I've published here are all updated, proofread versions of ones I'd already published on a site called Literotica - although they have been much better received here than they were at their first home. That site, this one and another site called LushStories are my three favourites as they have more of a community feel to them.

I'm sure readers have their own vision of what you look like, and who you are - how much of yourself do you include in your stories?

Include a lot of myself in my stories, as they all start off as fantasies that I have. I know some people like to change themselves a lot if they write about themselves, but I actually prefer to keep the characters that are me as close to reality as possible.

What is it about writing erotica that you most enjoy?

When I first write a story for myself, I enjoy the fact that really anything can happen in it. There are no limitations from other people involved, society's norms, porn industry pressures, or even what is physically possible. Then when I publish them, or write one specifically for others, I really enjoy the idea that I'll be arousing others just with the product of my imagination - I love feedback telling me a reader got themselves off reading it. Better still is feedback in the form of a story or idea for a story sparked by reading mine. Sexual pleasure is meant to be shared after all!

Do you write from experience or fantasy? Or maybe a combination of the two?

My first stories were written entirely from fantasy, though I often based characters on people I knew. I've been very pleased with feedback complimenting some of my early stories' realism as I was still a virgin when I wrote most of them! My "Webmeets Diary" series on the other hand is (so far anyway) almost entirely based on reality, though with a few alterations to hide people's identity and make the story flow more.

Is there anything you have written into a story that you would really like to try in "real life", but haven't yet been able to?

My most recent stories have been based on what I have done in real life, and that series is not yet finished, so I don't want to spoil the surprises for readers by giving away what might be coming up. Some things I write about though I would like to keep in the realm of fantasy though I think - for instance I would not be comfortable sharing my partner with anyone else. However nice an open relationship sounded to me before, and however well it may work for some people, it's not something I would risk.

Does your partner or any of your friends know that you write? What do they think?

Apart from a couple of people I met purely for sex, no one I know in the physical world knows of the stories I've posted. I do tell stories to my partner, and have some ideas for ones I might write for her, but I probably wouldn't publish them. Although she's fine knowing and even hearing about me having sex with other guys, there are some fantasies and true stories that I've published which I'd not be too comfortable with her reading.

How about in more general terms - how do you feel about the "outside world"'s perception of erotic writing?

I'm not really sure what other people think about it since it doesn't come up in conversations that often, at least among people I know. Occasionally it gets mentioned in the media, and is generally treated in a rather puerile, immature way, but that's how most subjects get treated I find. I would guess a lot more people read it than admit it.

One thing that I love about ES is that you very quickly build up a community of fans, who enjoy writing to and hearing from their favorite authors. Do you have any favorite topics that have surfaced in these "conversations"?

It's always nice to hear from other bisexual guys or women who encourage that side in their partners. From my conversations and experience, I think it's safe to say that human sexuality can't be divided into two or three types, but is a whole spectrum.

How do you feel when you receive negative comments or very low votes from readers?

Constructive criticism is always welcome, even if I don't agree with it. Totally negative comments I don't really understand though - why would someone bother to waste time saying they hate everything about an erotic story? I'm not to bothered by them, just a bit puzzled that people don't have better things to do. Mostly I write for myself though, and just share them with the world in case anyone else enjoys them, if someone really doesn't it doesn't worry me, it's not like I forced them to read it.

What kind of stories would you never write?

The guidelines for what is allowed on this site are pretty much my limits I think. If I wrote erotica constantly everyday, I'm sure I would eventually have at least one story in most categories. Since I don't want it to be my life I tend to limit myself to the categories I'm most interested in, ones I can't find a porn equivalent to, and ones that relate to my actual experience.

Have you ever been filmed or photographed having sex?

I've always found the idea of being photographed or filmed having sex, and it often features in my stories. Before I ever had sex with anyone, the first thing I did when I got a digital camera was video myself masturbating. It was an old model, so to start with I was limited to 30 second bursts of the action with my hand, until I discovered that if it was plugged into the computer it could be used as a webcam and record for as long as the battery lasted straight to the hard drive. Then I would plan a whole scene to act out when I had the house to myself.

The first time I dressed up in my old school uniform, pretending to myself that I'd come home and the cucumber I'd warmed up in the microwave was my boyfriend's cock. To get a better camera angle I put it on a tripod and climbed on to our main table - the computer was in the dining room - and fucked myself with the improvised dildo.

When I first started experimenting with cross dressing in my sister's clothes, I took photos of myself posing in them to see what I looked like. I also made a little porn scene in them one time, putting together the sluttiest combination I could of purple and black striped socks, a denim mini-skirt and a black top. Again in our dining room, I stripped for the camera, then experimented with some new toys I'd bought - rather riskily having them sent to our family home. There was a huge, two inch thick and twelve inch long jelly cock, though luckily thinks to its soft material was not too painful to insert. The other was an even bigger rubber vibrating butt plug. It had about three ridges of increasing thickness - I once managed to get down to the second, about three inches, but never the third.

Once I found my first fuck buddy (chapter 2 of my Webmeets Diary series), the second time I met with him I brought my camera along, and a few other times. The videos didn't turn out well, they were too dark, but he took some nice shots of me sucking his cock and taking it in my arse. Several other encounters in that series were also filmed and photographed, I'm debating whether or not to put a few of the more anonymous looking ones on the internet somewhere. If and when I do, I'll be sure to let those interested know!

My partner and I have also filmed ourselves having sex - I won't give too many details, but one time we filmed trying out our new strap on dildo. If anyone out there is considering getting one, we can definitely recommend the Vac-U-Lock Julie Ashton one. As well as obvious attachments for the front, it also features two removable ones for the inside, so if she wants the wearer can have anal and vaginal stimulation while she fucks her partner. I doubt we'd ever share them with other people, but I do like the strange, almost out-of-body experience of watching yourself have sex.

Do you remember the first pornography you ever saw?

I'm not sure I remember the first I ever saw, though I think it may have been pictures of beautiful Indian girls - that's as in the Indian subcontinent in Asia, not Native Americans in case anyone's unsure. One of my best friends at school was half Indian, and he had a super hot (once she grew up a bit) sister, who I based the main other character in one of my first stories on.

I do remember the first long porn video I saw though. I downloaded it through one of the first file sharing programs, and it was an anal video. The clothes were horrible brightly coloured latex things, and the girl wasn't that great looking, although I liked the fact that her breasts seemed real, she wasn't so skinny her ribs were showing and her arse was big and round. The end was also pretty kinky, as she made the guy cum on an apple and it ended on her taking a bite, so that was the image that stayed on the screen when it finished.

These days I love the YouTube style porn sites, there's one in particular called Spankwire that has lots of good homemade videos on, which I find far more arousing than most professional productions.

What's the kinkiest thing you have ever done?

Hmm, well, I think that would definitely be what I recounted in Chapter 3 of the Webmeets Diary series. I don't want to spoil it, but to give people a taster of what I did (and to save people who wouldn't like it from reading it), here's a brief summary: I met an older couple, the husband of which was bisexual, and dressed up as a slutty girl for them...

I've done plenty of other things which people might consider more or less kinky, such as bondage, getting fucked with a strap on, etc. Even before I met anyone, I often liked to cover myself in messy substances such as mud, custard, baked beans or gunge made from flour, water and food colouring, take photos of myself and masturbate in it. I have pretty kinky tastes I suppose!

Do you have any fantasies that you would like to fulfill?

Many, but most of all I would love to have sex in a bath of custard! Sounds weird I'm sure, but there's a whole fetish community of "wet and messy" enthusiasts, which was one of the first things I looked for when I discovered porn. There's something amazing sensual in the look and feel of custard spread over the human body - I find even people I normally wouldn't find that attractive can look stunning when covered in it. So to play with someone else in a bath of the stuff, lick it off each other and then slowly fuck with it smeared over us would be amazing! It's something I'll have to work up to though I think.

What is a major turn on for you during sex?

Oral sex, is the main one - receiving it is of course fantastic, but I also love giving it. The taste and feel of a woman's vagina is such a turn on I rarely need any other stimulation to get hard. On the other hand, the thing I miss most about being single is the pleasure of having another man's cock in my mouth, swirling my tongue around it, tasting it, and making him cum.

The only thing that I might like more is anal stimulation, though thanks to the wealth of dildos, butt plugs and strap-ons available these days, and my girlfriend's open mind about such things, it's not something I go without. I think men who are so paranoid about the possibility of being gay that they refuse any anal stimulation are really missing out - I've never had orgasms as powerful as those brought on or at least complemented by it. I've heard the prostate called the "male G-spot" and whilst I obviously can't ever experience the female one to compare, it seems fairly accurate. So guys, don't worry, enjoying a woman playing with your arse does not make you gay. My partner certainly enjoys the noises and face I make when she adds a dildo up my arse to her blowjobs!

How about a major turn off?

That's much harder... I suppose I would never even consider anything involving faeces, urgh, that really repulses me. Pee is not far behind it either, and I'm not into pain, at least nothing much more than a playful slap. Lack of consent too, even the other person just not being that into it - I don't understand how anyone could have enjoyed the old fashioned "lie back and think of England" approach to sex. Other than that though, if I'm horny it takes a lot to turn me off!

How do you feel about same sex relationships, both personally and as a writer?

Since I'm bisexual, and had no real problems coming to terms with that growing up (I've never felt the need to tell my parents, but they never gave the impression they'd disown me if I was gay), I've never really considered same sex relationships any differently to heterosexual ones. I've read plenty of stuff on the origins of homophobia, and in theory I understand how it has come about, but on a personal level I just don't get how people can think it's any of their business who others fall in love with or share their bodies with voluntarily. I've never seen the whole movie (if anyone knows what it's called please let me know) but years ago a saw a clip which ended with the immortal line "everybody should keep fucking everybody else until we're all the same colour!" Obviously it was referring to interracial sex, but I would extend it to all distinctions between consenting adults.

On the other hand, while I've had maybe three times as many sexual relationships (mostly brief) with other men as I have with women, I've never found myself emotionally attached to a guy beyond the best friend level, whereas I've fallen rather deeply for girls several times. So I think all of the male-male sex in my stories is between friends or strangers rather than people in a relationship, whereas the heterosexual sex is generally with a girlfriend. One day I would like to explore a fully emotional same sex relationship in a story though, it's on a very long list of things I'd like to write about.

Do you explore these feelings, positive and negative in your stories?

Definitely. I find stories that don't let you at least a little bit into the heads of the characters rather pointless - I may as well just watch porn.

How long does it take for you to write a story? Could you talk us through the process?

Most stories start off as a vague fantasy, triggered by something I see or dream. If I keep thinking about it for whatever reason, and it starts to dominate my thoughts, I write down a skeleton outline just to try and stop it taking over. Then, at some point when I have some free time that I feel like dedicating to writing erotica, I go through my ideas, find one I fancy and just start writing as it comes into my head. There's not really a fixed time it takes me, as it depends on the story - some naturally come to an end earlier than others, but I suppose on average it might take 2 or 3 lots of 2 hour sessions to write most of them. Once I've written it usual takes at least another hour to proof read it.

Right now, your most popular story is Brightest Star Of All, with an average vote of 9.43. Do you agree that this is your best? Why do you think it struck such a chord?

I think the reason for that one's popularity is that it isn't just about a fuck meet. I tried very hard to make that more about the feelings the two characters have for each other, and didn't try to make them much different from myself or people I know - in particular I didn't make them much more confident than I am in real life. Some people have commented that they don't like the dialogue that much, but I think maybe they don't spend as much time with shy and socially awkward people as I do, because if was to write down what was said when I was in a similar situation in real life it would be even worse!

Do you have any stories in the pipeline you would especially like to tell us about?

Well, currently I've published up to Chapter 5 in my Webmeets Diary series, but there are another 3 chapters written that I just need to proof read, so they'll be coming soon - I try to publish one every three weeks so as not to overwhelm people and to keep them interested, as well as to give me time to do other things in my life. After that I'm not sure when I'll continue that series, but I have a few ideas for sequels to existing ones and some more stand alone stories.

Finally there is a series I started writing when I was 15 and continued to work on up until a few years ago, which has reached over 30 chapters and have yet to publish anywhere. I'll need to tidy it up a bit and maybe change some things since what I found erotic at 15 is not necessarily what I would now, but I hope to start submitting that in the relatively near future. That series is written entirely from the point of view of a girl, so in that at least it will be completely different from other stories I have published.

Is there anything else you would like to say to the readers of this interview and your fans? Now is your chance...

Thank you all for reading my stories and sending me feedback, I really do appreciate knowing that I've given pleasure to others and being given ideas of how to improve. If you would like me to send you a message when I publish a new story, just send me one. And if you have suggestions for a story you think I might like that you or someone else has written, I'd love to hear about it!

Finally, do you have a website or a blog, where your fans can visit and maybe learn more about you?

I have a blog here: http://blog.askjolene.com/starbelliedboy. At the moment I'm just posting links to videos and pictures that I find that sort of go with my stories, but in the future I will post links to things I like, and maybe rough ideas for stories that I don't have the time to finish but that others might like to use. I'm not sure I'll stay there, it's not a very customizable blog, but if I move that's where the new address will get posted first.

Please read Starbelliedboy's stories!
