Pussycat2Kca has been publishing here since December, 2002, when she posted "A Summer Idyll." Not a prolific writer, she has since published just eleven more, but this is one of those instances where it's quality, not quantity that keep the readers returning. Her most recent story was the inter-racial "Her Biggest Negotiation," in October 2009.
Q. Now, is there anything you'd like to tell us about yourself?
My name is Julia; I'm thirty-six years old. I was born in England but live in Vancouver, Canada, where I own and operate a lingerie boutique.
Q. How and when did you begin writing erotic stories?
I began writing erotic stories after discovering your website, almost eight years ago. I have such an active imagination and erotic fantasy life, and I thought I was a passable writer, so your site inspired me to try to write one of my own.
Q. Have you published anywhere other than ES.com?
I have published stories on one other site.
Q. What is it about writing erotica that you most enjoy?
I enjoy painting an erotic picture with words, and getting into other people's minds. I also enjoy fleshing the idea out in my head before I start. It all starts with an image or a locale/setting for me.
Q. What is your favorite category to write in, and why?
If I had to choose one, it would be 'Older Women/Men'. I love playing with power dynamics when it comes to sexual scenarios and stories that involve a large age gap and power reversals seem to allow me to have fun with that.
Q. How much of yourself do you include in your stories?
In a way a little and in another way a lot. Physically, my female protagonists are usually like me in that they're quite curvy. Sexually, they're always like me in that they have a psychological and physical fetish for extremely well endowed men (if you've read my stories, I'm sure that's quite evident). Like my female protagonists, I have a kind of complex interior tug of war between fear and trepidation and desire to be overwhelmed by extreme size in a man. Not sure if I've articulated that properly.
Q. Is there anything that happens in your stories that you would really like to try in "real life", but haven't yet been able to?
I often fantasize about being seduced by a beautiful woman (see 'Spanish Seduction').
Q. Does your partner or any of your friends know that you write? What do they think?
Absolutely no one knows that I write erotic fiction. It's my little secret world that I'm content to keep that way.
Q. What, if any, difficulties do you face when writing - erotic writing difficulties and general writing difficulties? And how do you overcome them?
I sometimes go for long periods of time without feeling an inspiration to write. If I try to force it, I end up making numerous false starts which I ultimately delete. It has to strike me personally and powerfully for me to start putting it down. That said, once I start it's usually smooth sailing without any stops. It just flows after that. Finding the proper inspiration is not something I try to overcome. I just let it happen naturally.
Q. How about in more general terms - how do you feel about the "outside world's" perception of erotic writing?
I suppose there are many who might look down upon it, but in general I think the genre of erotic fiction is perceived fairly positively. It's like any other genre - there's a wide range of quality and artistry. My guess is that women read as much or more of it than men do; perhaps because we're less visual and more oral/verbal, speaking generally (apologies for reducing things to gender stereotypes!).
Q. One thing that I love about ES is that you very quickly build up a community of fans, who enjoy writing to and hearing from their favorite authors. Do you have any favorite topics that have surfaced in these "conversations"?
I have been fortunate to receive my fair share of responses from readers; the vast majority of which have been kind, supportive, and positive. I'm always especially delighted to receive responses from other women, perhaps because they represent such a small minority within the overall number of responses that I receive. I can't say that a favourite topic has emerged. I think the readers that know my stories know that I never stray very far from my central theme. That said, some of my most favourable responses have come from well endowed men who appreciate hearing a woman's point of view on the subject.
Q. How do you feel when you receive negative comments or very low votes from readers?
Obviously, no one likes to receive a low score. Anyone who writes likes positive affirmation and is thrilled when readers signal that they have really enjoyed what you've written. Truly negative comments have been rare; constructive comments are always welcome. I confess I was a little surprised that my (to this point, anyway) only truly autobiographical story received the lowest overall score of all my stories. I suppose I learned the lesson that 'real life' doesn't translate into genuine eroticism.
Q. And do you read, and respond to, other writers on the site? Who are your favorites?
I do read other writers' stories. Two of my favourites are Karen and Mellors.
Q. Do you remember the first pornography you ever saw?
Perhaps fittingly, I remember coming across an erotic novel as a young girl. It was a sort of female secret agent/spy novel (along the lines of the Modesty Blaise series) with plenty of sex and men with huge penises. I also read 'Fanny Hill' as a young girl. I found both books enormously erotic. As for pornographic images, movies, etc, I remember discovering both my father's and brother's collection of magazines - my dad apparently had an appreciation for beautiful black women 'Players'; whereas my brother was a 'Penthouse' man. I also came across my first 'Playgirl' when I was in my mid teens. It was a real revelation to me - ogling the male body. I remember lusting after one model in particular that had both a delicious body and a very large penis.
Q. What's the kinkiest thing you have ever done?
That would have to be when I paid for the services of a male escort (blush). I have never told anyone about it, not even my closest friends. I happened to be in Australia (Melbourne) where it's completely legal and regulated. He was absolutely gorgeous and had the biggest penis I have ever seen in the flesh :)
Q. Do you have any fantasies that you would like to fulfill?
I have often fantasized about making love to a woman. If the ideal opportunity ever arises, I will be hard-pressed to say no.
Q. What is a major turn on for you during sex?
Good hygiene/grooming, the smell of a nice cologne, dirty talk, a man who likes to take charge, sensual men, attentiveness, a man who knows when to be tender and sensual and when to be bestial and ferocious.
Q. How about a major turn off?
Bad breath/hygiene, boorish or egotistical attitudes, bad kissers.
Q. How do you feel about same sex relationships, both personally and as a writer?
Both personally and as a writer, I have absolutely no problem with same sex relationships. To me, same sex couples are as natural as opposite sex couples. I make no distinctions. Intolerance, on any grounds (racial, sexual, etc) is a quality that I despise.
Q. Do you explore these feelings, positive and negative in your stories?
I can't say that I do, though I have sometimes toyed with the idea of a lesbian-oriented story.
Q. How long does it take for you to write a story? Could you talk us through the process?
As I mentioned earlier, it can take a while, and perhaps a few false starts that I inevitably abandon, before I have a story in my head that I think is worth writing (I think the longest dry spell for me was a year and a half).
It all starts with images and a relationship/power dynamic. Once I have something that truly inspires me, I won't be able to get it out of my head until I write it out. The writing usually takes about three or four days plus another day or two of editing and touch ups. I tend to write a third, go back and edit; write a third, go back and edit; write the final third, then go back and edit. I almost never re-read my own stories once they're published, I don't know why.
Q. What do you think is the best story you have published here?
For me, 'Room Service Writ Large' is the story I like best. It's also the most autobiographical (other than 'Julia's BIG Adventure') of my stories.
Q. Is there anything else you would like to say to the readers of this interview and your fans? Now is your chance...
Mostly, I would like to thank them for their support, and for taking the time to send me their comments and encouragement. Their feedback is very much appreciated. Also, I have had several requests to write a story as a tandem. Unfortunately, that's not something that would work given my own personal process. Nevertheless, I always appreciate their interest.
Q. Finally, do you have a website or a blog, where your fans can visit and maybe learn more about you?
I'm sorry, I don't.
