FANDANGO INTERVIEW

Fandango has been publishing at ES since August 2008, and "Exploring old friends." Since then he has published six further stories, most recently "A secret from the past" - "which actually harkens back to before my first on a time scale; all but one of my stories concern two on-going major characters."

Q. Now, is there anything you'd like to tell us about yourself?

R. Well, that all depends on how much you want to know or how much I am willing to divulge? But seeing as you asked so nicely... I am a male, I'm 51 years of age and I live in middle England with my wife & our 2 grown up children. I am a semi-pro musician. I enjoy writing - my own songs, movie scripts and of course 'naughty stories'! I am also in the process of writing my first novel but feel I need to be stricter with myself as it ain't as easy as writing short stories. On a personal side I am roughly 5 feet 11 inches tall with an average build, and long hair with some facial hair too, depends on how scruffy I feel at the time?

Q. How and when did you begin writing erotic stories?

R. I've always enjoyed writing of some kind or another even since I was a kid but I think the idea for writing erotic material stems from reading the old 'Readers confessions' letters in old porn mag's way back in the 70's & 80's. I found them more fascinating and a bigger turn-on than the other articles.

Q. Have you published anywhere other than ES?

R. Erotic material, no. However I have had other things published in magazines (none porn), poetry and such.

Q. What it is about writing erotica that you most enjoy?

R. I enjoy the fact that I can act out my fantasies on paper with no reprisal. I can have people/characters do exactly what I want them to, and hopefully make it feel real and believable to the reader. To be honest, and I'm not sure if any other writers would agree but I feel reading and/or writing this type of material to be more of a turn on than actually watching some porn, which these days seems quite boring and artificial, corporate even.

Q. What is your favourite category to write in, and why?

R. Definitely 'Slut wife'! What can I say; it's what I like. For a wife/partner to act slutty, to watch her with another man/woman? Woof, that's hot stuff amigo!

Q. How much of yourself do you include in your stories?

R. The main character of Pat is me! Embellished of course but essentially it's me, and my other main character Deb, she is my wife. The lines do cross and fact & fiction do get a little blurry but then that's what a writer's job is, to tell a 'story' albeit based on true life, but how much? My first submission 'Exploring old friends' was autobiographical, the rest have elements of things we've experienced but I won't say which, can't let the cat out of the bag!

Q. Is there anything that happens in your stories that you would really like to try in 'real life' but haven't yet been able to?

R. Have sex with my wife & another woman without cumming before I've even got undressed! Or... another would be getting a slow blow job from my wife and another woman, actually if I can write on a separate piece of paper I do have quite a substantial list? But the blow job thing would be nice, not too deep and take it nice and slow. Pardon me while I pause for a cold shower... (20 minutes later) Okay, I'm back. Next question please.

Q. Does your partner or any of your friends know what you write? What do they think?

R. My wife knows what I write but doesn't seem to mind although she does becomes a little coy when I tell her I mainly write about her. My friends don't know; well all except one that is, see 'Exploring old friends'.

Q. What, if any, difficulties do you face when writing - erotic writing difficulties and general writing difficulties? And how do you overcome them?

R. For me it's keeping the flow going. I generally make notes to begin with, have a general idea of my story and where it will lead but I find that if I haven't enough time or are distracted and can't get back to the keyboard I can get a block, then I have to leave it for a while, maybe a day or two. One story I was writing I had to leave it for over a month, my mind just went blank I just couldn't get back into it. I do also think that as a writer you have to immerse yourself into the situation too, I suppose like a character actor gets into character? Think of De Niro, feel his pain! Or in my case feel my...

Q. How about in more general terms - how do you feel about the 'outside worlds' perception of erotic writing?

R. I do think it is treated like second class writing/story telling unless your name is Vladimir Nabokov or D.H. Lawrence. I do also find it very hypocritical for example - in the words of 'Family Guy' TV series opening song, 'It's sad to say, the world today, is violence in movies and sex on TV' and then it goes on to parody that scenario. (Very funny programme by the way, excellent writing). But that is so true to life, as a society we turn our noses up at the suggestion of sex, yet we all do it! In differing levels admittedly but it's what makes the world go round... and up & down etc. Wake up world, sex is 'good'! (between consenting adults)

Q. How do you feel when you receive negative comments or very low votes from readers?

R. I think I'm very lucky really in the fact that I've only ever received one comment which could be described as negative but then it wasn't really negative either it was more of a suggestion by the reader, (he couldn't quite believe a husband would allow his wife to take part in a particular scenario). But then that's just one persons opinion and it didn't hurt or upset me in any way. Besides, I've not been as prolific as some people and feel I have a long way to go yet, and a few more comments to come too, both positive and negative. As for low votes I think I've only ever looked into the stats a couple of times, it's not important. The positive public feedback is what spurs you on and gives you the urge to continue to write.

Q. And do you read and respond to other writers on the site? Who are your favourites?

R. I certainly do. I like to read maybe a couple at a time and I always know if they hit the right spot as I find I'm reaching for my 1972 Chuck Berry hit 'My ding-a-ling'! There are many good writers on this site with a wide variety of subjects and I'm constantly amazed at their high standard. I couldn't really say who my favourite writers are as so many are so good, I do however have to restrict myself otherwise it would cost me a bloody fortune in tissue paper!

Q. Do you remember the first pornography you ever saw?

R. Yes indeed. I must have been about 14 years old on a cross country run at school. As I ran underneath an old railway bridge I wondered what it was a bunch of lads had stopped and were looking at. It turned out to be an old copy of some Swedish porn mag which one of them had nicked out of his Dads draw. There was no writing that I can remember, the A5 size pages were just beautiful flesh from top to bottom and the pictures seemed to tell some sort of a basic story. I've been blind ever since!

Q. What's the kinkiest thing you've ever done?

R. The first thing that comes to mind is having sex on the internet on webcam with over 600 people watching. It happened a couple of years back and was just a random thing. We were in a time when we decided to do as many things we could that we'd never done, that was one, and it was a lot of fun too.

Q. Do you have any fantasies you would like to fulfil?

R. Yes quite a few I'm sure but then how long is a piece of string? I think my ideal fantasy would be to be invited to make a porn film with Angelina Jolie, Kate Beckinsale & Fairuza Balk!

Q. What is a major turn on for you during sex?

R. I like it when Deb whispers of her conquests in my ear.

Q. How about a major turn off?

R. When a partner seems less enthusiastic than me, or that they are doing it off a list of chores: Do shopping, pick up kids, cook dinner, fuck husband... that sort of thing. When she just lies there and says, 'Okay, lets just get it over with!' Tends to put you off a bit. Or when she asks 'Honey, are you in yet?' by which time you've finished, smoked a cigarette and you're now on the phone ordering Pizza!

Q. How do you feel about same sex relationships, both personally and as a writer?

R. I have no problem at all with either, although as a straight man I would probably find it a little problematic writing a gay scene between men as I have no experience, but with 2 women the doors are a lot less closed and lets face it a man's main fantasy 9 times out of 10 is 2 women, but is what we write real or just what we perceive to be real, how do women feel about men writers when they write about them in just such a situation?

Q. Do you explore these feelings, positive and negative in your stories?

R. I have to a point. In one of my stories Deb has a friend of hers Carol, they get together and have scene, but as yet I haven't written anything in which a guy gets it on with another guy. Who knows maybe I should try writing one? (But don't hold your breath)

Q. How long does it take you to write a story?

R. It all depends on how much time I have and how much I want to put into a story. I can write one in maybe 3 or 4 days, others can be on going for a week or two. If I put my mind to it and there's a scenario that I really want to get off my chest I could write one in one sitting, but I mainly like to take my time and get it right, check things over a couple of times before I feel it's complete.

Q. What do you think is the best story you have had published here?

R. Let me think? Hmm... Maybe 'Debs little group' parts 1 & 2. That's a story in which I probably went further than I normally would, but I was pleased with the outcome and enjoyed writing it. It concerned Deb connecting up with 2 guys off an internet site and them taking her to a secluded wood. But that's just my opinion, what my readers think would probably be different.

Q. Is there anything else you would like to say to the readers of this interview and your fans? Now is your chance...

R. Firstly thank you to all of you who have taken the time to read my stories, which in itself is a blast! To then receive a 'thumbs up' is phenomenal, if I could buy you all a drink I would. Keep the comments coming, it keeps me wanting to write.

Q. Finally, do you have a website or a blog, where your fans can visit and maybe learn more about you?

R. Unfortunately no... not yet.

Please read Fandango's stories.
