One Autumn Night in Minnesota

“Well that really sucked” Sandy Conner said as she threw her softball glove across the locker room. “I mean, really I can’t believe that we lost again, especially to those guys!” The “those guys” she was talking about was one half of a three year long rivalry that was ongoing and was pretty safe to say was not going to end anytime soon.

The Bears, had a pretty decent softball team, and one excellent pitcher-Rachel Ward, who was not “on” all that often but when she was, she was deadly. Sandy, played second base for the Mustangs, the other half of the rivalry. Although it was just an inter-city league, the game was important to Sandy.

“Whatcha doing tonight Sandy”

The question came to her from across the locker room. Sandy did not even have to look up to know who was asking, She knew by the voice-even over the din of the showers that had started. It was Grace. Grace Stillbeck and Sandy Conner had been friends awhile, Grace had transferred into her junior college a year and a half ago an advanced algebra class later and they were fast friends.

“Ya know, if that stupid blind umpire was not always looking at Amy’s chest, we might have had a better chance-I think she’s fucking him” ...
