Jon and I had been roomies for 2 and 1/2 years. They had been grueling because we were in law school together. We had been study mates and it had just gotten easier for us to live together. One of us was always having to drive home at 4 or 5 in the morning after a long and hard night of study. Looking for different briefs, reading journals, articles, learning investigative skills for our careers ahead. It was May and we were graduating and celebrating.

Our plans were to both start as underlings at a large firm here in town. We were both in the top 5 of our class of 250 students. We had the negotiating power to land a job together in a great place.

Jon was to leave in two weeks for a summer in France on a bycicle. I was going to stay home and get Jon's and my new house ready for mid August when we started work. Jon was the rich dude, I was just an average guy who had worked hard to keep scholarships and jobs just to stay afloat. I wasn't sure it was going to be easy to live with Richy Rich after school. While we were in school it was great. He bought all the stuff we needed. Often times it was the food and everything else.

His Dad was really cool about Jon keeping me up. He knew that without me his only child would not be staying at the top of his class and that would mean a lower position.
