Just as I stepped out of the elevator on the bottom floor of my apartment building, my cell phone rang. It was my friend Christina, calling to tell me that the guy she had been lusting after for months had just called and asked to take her to dinner that night. So there went my plans for the evening. I understood of course, but was sort of a pain, since I would now have to figure out new plans for the night. My boyfriend had been out of town for about a week, and I was dying to go out and flirt, since I couldn't have the "real thing".

I stood there for a few minutes, making calls to a few more friends to try to find something to do, but to no avail. They weren't home, didn't feel like going out, etc. I hit the end button on my phone after the last call, and stamped my foot. (Childish, I know, but I was frustrated!)

"Damn it," I cursed a bit too loudly.

"Bad night?" I turned to see who had heard me. It was my new neighbor. I had met her once or twice before, but I could not remember her name. She was juggling several grocery bags in her slender arms. I pressed the elevator button and we both got in.

"I just got stood up by my girlfriend," I said, laughing a bit. "And now I can't get in touch with anyone else to make other plans."
