Hung Jury

The United States' jury system, God bless it, is somewhat unique in the world. With every person guaranteed a trial by a jury of his peers, assembling and selecting those peers can be an interesting exercise. It certainly proved to be an interesting and fulfilling experience for me. Jury duty in this neck of the woods is a one-day or one trial proposition. You show up when summoned, sit through an orientation, and if chosen, serve on a jury for the duration of a single case. If you're not chosen you go home. Either way, you're good for three years before they can call you again. They don't accept a lot of excuses for not showing up and not serving, so everyone eventually has their chance.
