Jim looked small in the large dark room. Above his head shown one single dim bulb, glaring in his dark eyes as accusingly as the man that stood before him. Jim was handsome and tall, with piercing black eyes that showed fear in nothing but danger of hurt to his wife, his love, Gina. He was now curled into a ball, at the mercy of the man before him--a big oaf of a man that looked as though he had been burned in a fire long ago. Jim knew why he was in the room, he knew from the moment that his horse didn't pull through that he was going to die.

"I'll pay it back," His voice was firm and solemn, "I swear I will, but please, I have to live." The lines sounded like the terrible plot of a gangster flick...he could not believe that his lips uttered this cliché so readily.

"Yes, you're right Mr. McCloud, you do have to live," the grunt of a man grinned in some devious intent, "You have to pay back your debt...without greedy soulless men like you, I would be out of a job--we do indeed need you."

Jim breathed a long sigh of relief and started to get up from his chair. "Sit" commanded the grunt, "that is not a green light or a pardon." He grinned bearing yellow teeth and a sickly false curve of the lip. "You will pay for your dues immediately, your young wife Gina will relieve you"
