Kirsty was angry but was anxious not to show it. Although it was only the fifth day of her honeymoon her husband, David, had decided that he wanted to go out on an overnight fishing expedition and, for the first time since her marriage, she was going to have to spend the night alone. She was upset and hurt by the way he was proposing to neglect her but, rather than give the impression that she was going to be a possessive and demanding wife, she dutifully accepted his selfish decision.

Being basically rather a shy woman - although not a virgin when they had married, she and her husband had been childhood sweethearts and she had never been out with another man - Kirsty had initially wanted to spend the evening alone.
