Harriet woke up the next morning surprised she'd actually slept, and slept well, through the night. She turned her head and looked at the peaceful face of the young man lying next to her, still sound asleep. She smiled as she remembered the gentle yet passionate session of love-making they'd shared once they went to bed. "Maybe what we did last night helped both of us get a good night's sleep," she thought instead of saying the words out loud. She didn't want to wake Frank up.

The smile on her face faded as her recall expanded to include the horrible things that she'd learned the previous day.
