I have been taking my 10 year son to a one on one hockey program for the last two years. It has always felt like such a chore; picking him up from school, running to get equipment, travelling 20 miles to a particular rink, shivering for an hour in the cold while trying to look supportive. My husband travels constantly and has never been available to take him during the week. This has been my routine 3 days a week, and I was starting to get tired of it.

Anyway, it was 3 months ago ( I know the time exactly because it was my 34th birthday) the head of the hockey school called me and asked it if it would be ok if Stephen had a new instructor for his next lesson as he was busy opening a new location and would not be available for our regular time. I brought Stephen to the ice level and took my seat on the players' bench where I usually sat for his lessons.
