It was a beautiful, late summer/ early fall day. A day when the sun shone so brightly that everything was brought into focus, A day when the air was so clear that you could see for a hundred miles, or spot an ant tracking its way across a forest floor.

It had been a long time since they'd been together, and even longer since they'd been out on the river together. He'd known that she'd want to stay home and relax, but she, knowing how much he enjoyed a day out in the rapids, wouldn't hear of it. "Just make sure I have some coffee, and let me sleep, ok?" she'd pointed out the night before as she climbed into his bed and cuddled close.

He'd groaned than, as much at the remembrance of the feel of her body, so warm and near, as it had been for the actuality of it now.

They awoke with the crack of dawn. It would be a long ride.

Actually, he awoke. He wriggled out of bed, gently prying away from her encircling arm and the enticements she offered if he'd just stay ( her caresses, the light kisses on his neck and the slight nip she gave him were almost enough...but not quite). He ground some coffee beans and ...
