Eve stood in the doorway, her back against the frame, watching the people milling around the room. Her eyes kept coming back to one guy, who was standing across the room talking to someone she didn't know. He'd been watching her for about an hour; she could feel his eyes on her at random moments. He was good looking, if a bit quiet, and she recalled that his name was Slade. He was a friend of a friend of a friend, and Eve decided she wanted to get to know him better. She set her glass down on the end table by her hip, and walked very slowly over to him. Slade watched her every movement, the way her tight purple sheath of a dress stretched and molded to her as she moved, her slender feet in the strappy high heeled sandals she wore. She had a smile on her face and a glint in her eye as she stopped in front of him. The guy he'd been talking to was forgotten instantly, wasn't even noticed when he walked away. Slade looked her over while waiting for her to speak. Her black hair was caressing the top of her hips, her bare arms and shoulders. He wanted to run his fingers through it. Her voice brought his eyes back to her face.

"Slade, isn't it?" she asked, her voice husky and a bit gravelly, as if she smoked too much. Which he knew she didn't.

"Yeah. Miranda introduced us. Eve is a pretty name. Pretty name for a pretty girl."
