They moved in next-door on a Friday. I thought I'd give them a day or two to settle in before going over to introduce myself. It was a nice neighbourhood and as there were no fences between properties it paid to be on good terms with your neighbours.

I knocked on the door, and a young guy answered it. He was in his mid-teens, about 5'6", long dark hair and very good-looking with a strong jaw on him. I introduced myself, and he said his name was Keith. He yelled out to his mother and she came to the door and we introduced ourselves and she invited me in.

Kate offered me a cup of coffee, which I accepted. Sitting among usual debris of moving we had our coffee and got to know each other a little. She had just been divorced and had decided to start her new life in a new part of town. Part way through our cup we were interrupted by her older son, Michael. He was 6'2", the same good looks of younger brother but short-cropped dark hair. He was off out and needed the car, so his mum gave him the keys and he left. We finished our coffees and I left her to clean up all her removal packing.
