Jack stripped the shirt off his lean, muscular torso, and tossed it into the dirty clothes hamper. He glanced out the window and read the large, round thermometer nailed onto the tree: 101 degrees! And that wasn't counting the humidity! It was blistering, inside and out, even with his air conditioner running full tilt!

He decided that he had to stroll down to the lake and take a dip. He was melting like a candle! He neede refreshment!

He was already wearing shorts, so he grabbed a beach towel and his keys and bolted out the door.

Towel and hand, he marched purposefully down the country road that he lived on, bearing towards the lake awaiting him just over a mile away!

The road rippled from waves of hot air as he walked quickly on. Farmhouses and fields of yellow wheat lay to either side of the quiet country lane. Jack had moved out here from the city for its beauty and peacefulness. It was no accident that the house had rented was so close to a lake, Jake had experienced too many baking days without relief in the city! His objective today was part of the reason he had relocated out in the sticks.
