I mindlessly flipped my pen as an admissions officer droned on in front. Orientation sucks...I already knew the campus, didn't really want to meet anyone else, and just felt like getting my classes and getting the hell out of there. If college was this boring, maybe it'd be better to just get a job. I tried to pay attention, but it really wasn't working.

Someone new was talking, "Okay, everyone pull out the blue sheet in your folders." She was way, way too perky for seven A.M. I got the sheet anyway and groaned when I saw it. Diversity bingo? Great. As if this wasn't any worse, they'd added forced social interaction. Sigh...well, at least it couldn't get any worse. There were some decent-looking girls here, and seeing as everyone was at least 18, no worries about sex laws.

Everyone stood up and I looked for a place to pretend I was working. There wasn't anywhere to go, so I turned around. This was a mistake, because standing there was Rachael. Rachael Davis...an ex from high school who dumped me thanks to a mix of paranoia and parental pressure. Her parents weren't too keen on Rachael (conservative, mediocre student attending strictly Catholic St. Pius X High School) messing around with, well, me: politically radical, decent student, debater, going to local public high school To Remain Nameless. We did a fair amount of messing around too. It never went very far, but we had a lot of fun. It ended rather abruptly, when she announced she couldn't trust me ...
