MARIO QUEREZ sat at the large size desk, waiting. He was well known for his patience. He sat completely still, staring at the picture of his mother hanging directly over the double doors leading out of his office. His eyes darted to the bookcases to the right, the comfortable bar and lounge to the left. Querez tried his best not to be anxious, not to be afraid. His heart was ramming against his ribcage and his palms were sweaty. But his face stood for everything calm and tranquil in the world.

Suddenly the doors burst open, startling Querez. He was sixty years old for Pete's sake. He was not as composed as he used to be. But it was only his dim-witted nephew, Maurice.
