Night Shift - Part Two

Saturday morning I arrived at the studios at about a quarter until six needing some industrial strength coffee. I headed straight to the jock's lounge, hoping there was some made. Stepping inside I could smell burnt coffee. Damnit what is it about men? They pour the last of the coffee and won't bother to put on a fresh pot and just leave the coffee maker on. It took me almost ten minutes to get one of the pots clean and a fresh batch brewing. I was pissed.

Rushing into the control room expecting to find the all night man there I was surprised to see he was gone, already signing off all of his program logs. In this hi tech world we live in now, radio is all computer. Vince the overnight jock was on the air but he wasn't there. He had voiced tracked the last two hours of his show and left. The computerization of radio means you can record a five hour show in about an hour's time. You just intro or outro the music and commercials and the computer takes care of the rest. My buddy Bob Madison refuses to do it saying if he's on the air he's going to be on the air and I feel the same way.

I picked up my music log and looked over the songs programmed. Shit I had played about half of the songs on my program Friday night. I wanted to play songs I wanted to play and really take requests but that's against the rules. I think it's stupid to give the request line ...
