"We've been dating for almost two months now," Will thought as he walked down the dark moonlit street beside Sharon. "I wonder if it would be alright for me to hold her hand...." It was a beautiful night in the small Northern California town. This was the kind of town where everyone knew everybody else and knew just what everyone else was doing, at least most of the time. "That's probably why Sharon's so reluctant to even let me kiss her," Will reflected. It was fall but still early enough in the season for the nights to be cool, but not cold. He thought that Sharon looked especially beautiful tonight, her long brown hair shining in the pale light of the half-moon. She wore loose corduroy pants and a tight cashmere sweater that was the colour of the sky on a clear April morning. It matched the colour of her eyes perfectly and brought out the contours of her body in a very becoming way. In the light breeze Will could smell her perfume that always reminded him of clean laundry and rain. The two had known each other since they were children. They had played together until fear of cooties drove them apart, and then became close friends again once they reached the latter years of junior high. They were both what most people considered nerds-both in Science Club and ASB. In High School they were both ASB presidents of their classes, Will being one year ahead of Sharon and were both straight A students. Throughout High School Will kept a close watch on Sharon, feeling almost a brotherly tie to the girl, but it was something a little more, something he couldn't quite place.
