Tony Barret looked through the files that had been messily left in the rusty steel cabinet. There wasn't much of a system to it; it just looked like his predecessor just threw anything where it came to rest. Well, at least there were no high expectations of him doing better than the last guy.

Tony thought, here at East Gate High School the students wouldn't much care if he did better than the last guy anyway. Tony was 24, fresh out of college, the new Guidance Counselor in one of the worst schools in the state.

Tony lit himself a cigarette, opening the window so no one got wind of it and looked at his schedule for the day. He had ten minutes until his next appointment.
