To be a priest today is difficult, to say the least. When I joined the seminary, I knew this of course, but it is true that experience is often the cruelest teacher. I am one of the younger padres of my diocese, just barely 30 years old. I took the vows because I truly love the Church and want it to survive the many crises that have beset Our Mother in my lifetime.

I am relatively liberal as far as the Roman Catholic Church is concerned. I believe that women should be able to enter the priesthood and that birth control should be encouraged for those who have not chosen abstinence. I believe that children should not be made to feel ashamed of their bodies and that sexuality is a beautiful and holy thing. Still, I also believe in the authority of the institution in its current form and I have taken vows of poverty and of chastity that I take very seriously.

Unlike many of my brethren that have been gaining unfortunate attention in the papers these last few years, I truly dislike children. As my resources are often spread thin in the various parishes under my pervue, I always make sure to delegate the Sunday School, Catechism, Youth Group and other activities to the many soccer Moms and PTA types in the area who are more suited to the job. Some have criticized me for this, saying that I am distancing myself from the future of the Church.
