My Remedial Calculus class was 50 minutes of pure torture, as usual. I spent it ogling one of my three female classmates -- the one who, as far as I knew, wasn't already taken. Today, after class, she headed in the direction of the Student Union. Working up my courage, I followed her, thinking maybe I could offer to buy her a cup of coffee.

No such luck. On the far side of the Quad, she met up with two attractive guys leaving another classroom. Each took half of her books, and they strolled off holding her hands. Obviously her boyfriends. Damn!

My wristwatch beeped. It was Ben. "Good timing," I answered. "Two minutes earlier and I'd have clobbered you."

"Let me guess," his voice said. "You're in bed with a hot chick?"

"I wish," I said. "She's taken."

"The one in your Calculus class?"
