She sat there at the computer, looking at the invitation on her e-mail. Her hands were frozen, unmovable on the keyboard. The invitation required a response - that was part of the membership. "Failure to RSVP to invitations will result in your being moved to the inactive list." She could just say no. That would be easy enough. Just tell them that she had already made plans for that night, or use the good old standby, "Something came up." She could do that ... at least until she was ready.

"No, no, I signed on for this... I've been wanting to see what this is all about for years now. It's time to ‘fish or cut bait' as daddy would say." "Oh Lord" she thought, "If daddy were here now he'd surely get a gun and make good on all those threats from childhood."

She clicked on the "Yes, I will attend" box and hit "Send" before she had a chance to change her mind. She was finally going to do it. Finally going to attend a swinger's party.

The next week went by in a daze. Work was boring, and all she could think about were the scenarios that might take place at the party. "How many people will be there?"
