PART I

The entire episode started 2 summers ago. I am what you would call a "regular" guy in my mid-twenties and these kind of things don't happen to me often. I work for a consulting firm in downtown Manhattan. At the time the story begins I had already been working with the firm for 2 years and doing pretty well for myself. I had graduated top of my class from a prestigious East coast university and was recruited for a fancy salary and bonus. The flip side was that we had to work long hours, most weekends and constantly travel.

I had done pretty well over the last 2 years, gaining the respect of my peers and bosses. I was the first person in the history of the firm to be promoted from Junior Analyst to Analyst to Associate in just 2 years. I had earned and saved plenty and could now afford a swanky one-bedroom midtown apartment with a great view. Most girls think I'm cute, about 6 feet tall, brown eyes, brown hair, and I manage to run and work out regularly so I've maintained a good body.

Coming back to the story. The new class of recruits generally starts in August every year and this year was no different. During the first month, the firm generally throws a party at some fancy restaurant to introduce the recruits to the rest of employees and vice-versa.
