Carrie lifted herself off the couch and squinted her eyes at the television screen that illuminated the otherwise dark room. On the screen was a woman wrapped in a towel at a spa, a hostess for an infomercial about some kind of skin cream.

Behind her was another woman, Spanish perhaps, in a white uniform. As the pleasant looking brunette lowered the towel from her back, the Spanish woman applied the cream. She rubbed it over her bare shoulders and her back as the woman finished her lines and enjoyed the massage.

The cream made her tan skin glow. She smiled a moment and gave the camera a wink.

"This makes for a pretty good massage cream, too," she said.

The next shot was the cream set for $19.95 and all that. But Carrie wanted to see the spokeswoman again. Next time she came to the screen, she was fully clothed and hawking the cream.

Carrie clicked off the TV and made her way through the darkness to her bedroom. Her basset, Jody, followed in a sleepy drag.
