It had been about a year since I had seen Pamela, so imagine my surprise when she turned up at my place one Tuesday morning. Imagine also my shock as since I had last been with her I had got married.

I guess I was curious to find out what she was doing coming to my home after all this time because I found myself inviting her in. I closed the front door behind her and followed her through to the front room. She had been here on several occasions in the past so she knew her way around.

She sat in the armchair as I offered her tea or coffee. I knew she liked a drink but I thought 10:30am was a little early for alcohol. She decided on tea and I left the room to make it. Coming back with a cup for each of us I set Pamela's down on the table in front of her and carried mine to the settee.

"Well, I guess you want to know what I'm doing here." She said, looking across at me, her ice blue eyes giving me a direct stare.

"That would be a good start." I said.

Pamela picked up her cup, took a sip and then sat staring into the liquid while she made up her mind how to begin. After a few seconds silence she placed her cup back on the table. Looked up at me and smiled weakly. ...
