I was not able to sleep for some reason. I could hear the soft snoring of Jim in the other bed in the motel room, and the quiet breathing of Bren on the couch next to me. But they were not keeping me awake, I really don't know what was, so I just lay there looking at the ceiling in the half-light that filtered into the room through the curtains on the windows of the motel room.

"Are you awake John?" Bren asks from her bed on the couch.

"Yeah, I can't sleep for some reason or other. You awake too?" I reply.

"Yeah, you want to talk for a bit?" She asks.

"Sure, why not." I reply lamely.

So we lay there in the half dark talking about the work and our lives. Bren tells me all about her fiancé Ted for the n'th time and I tell her once again about my wife. The conversation is boring, but what the heck, we are just trying to pass the time until we are able to finally get to sleep, so boring is probably better.
