Missoula Motel

I lay on the motel bed watching a rerun of Hogan's Heroes and waiting for the sound of the arrival of Bren's car outside of the motel room. I did not know what to expect from her on this trip, we had one torrid night of passion a couple of weeks ago, but when I had talked to her on the phone a couple of days ago to confirm us meeting in Missoula she had seemed distant and somewhat reserved. I had hoped that she would insist on sharing a room but when I had broached the subject of whether to reserve one or two rooms on the phone with her, her response had been a neutral, "Whatever is best." I had reserved two rooms, with the hope of only using one, but we would see.

Finally there was the sound of Bren's car outside, I could tell it was hers because she had blown her muffler out a while back and her pinto sounded like a hot rod with straight pipes. So I got up, grabbed the extra key from the dresser and went out the door, just in time to see her get wearily out of the car. She had driven in from Pocatello today and that was almost twice my drive from Boise, I knew I was tired, so she must be really beat.

I handed her the key to her room and went to the passenger side to grab her bag. She looked at the key for a second and then went to the door to her room as I followed behind with her bag. I sat her bag down inside and said, "Why don't you freshen up a bit and we can go out to ...
