This story is a continuation of the characters (Ryan & Melanie) from "Picture This", though this one should still be enjoyable without reading it first.

I grabbed the pitcher and poured myself another glass of water. I unwrapped and ate my fourth mint in the past half hour. The lights were dim because of the presentation and I fought to stay awake. I stayed out late the night before with some clients, and combined with shear boredom, my eyelids were heavy. To make matters worse, they served a heavy lunch. All I wanted to do was go back to my hotel room and take a nap.

It was the third of the four-day conference, though. I'd made it this long so I forced myself to stay and listen to the speaker. The guy talked about branding strategies and search engine marketing. As usual, he was running PowerPoint with lame pictures and sound wavs. Fortunately for me, I didn't really attend these conferences to learn anything. It was simply a matter of networking and schmoozing customers, both current and future.

In an attempt to fight sleep and boredom, I flipped open my laptop. The conference center had a wireless network so I could at least surf the web or check email. As I scanned the room it looked like half the people had the same idea. A woman in front of me played the old standby, solitaire. I could tell a guy a couple of spots away was ...
