My Problem Employee

Everyone has that one employee that thinks they know everything and you can't tell them or teach them anything because they already know it all. Well Barb was mine. She was very sharp and she knew her stuff but she was getting to big for her britches and I knew I had to put her back into her place. Then maybe I could form her into the person she though she already was. I am the VP of Marketing for a multination firm and Barb was a product manager for one of our lines. I decided to set her up and see what would happen. I put her in charge of securing a big account that I knew we would not get. I had my sources and I knew that they were going with another company but they had to put out bids to make it seem fair. Well she went to work on the account and I would check up on her every few days to see how she was doing. She always said that everything was in hand and that she was going to get the account. I kept telling her how important it was for our firm to get this account.

A month later it was time for her to make her presentation to the company. I sent her off with the words that we needed this account ringing in her ears. This was on Wednesday and the presentation was on Friday. She went off assuring me that the account was in the bag. Well late Friday afternoon I called my source at the company and sure enough they had made the decision to go with the other company.
