Things were going quiet well for me in my recovery. I was able to do about whatever I wanted to do but the doctor had given me another six weeks off from work because he said that he wanted me to be a bit stronger before I took on the pressures of the job again. I continued to live in the mother-in-law apartment attached to the Cooper's house and felt comfortable there. Even thought I was allowed limited driving privileges, I did not have a lot of places to go. Most of my friends were drinkers and their socializing with them usually involved sitting around in one of their homes or in a tavern sipping the suds. I enjoyed a beer now and then but I no longer relished the group bingeing that I had participated in so many times.

I visited with Pam and Gary across the street once in a while. When Gary was there, he would drink heavily and at first, insisted that I join him. After a while he finally was content that I would sip a beer while he guzzled several. His drinking did not bother me especially since he was in a drunken stupor, actually passed out on the bed, while I fucked his wife on the couch on the other side of the archway. It was going on three weeks since we had that night on the sofa and we had not had an opportunity to repeat the performance. Gary was there at night and her young son, Farrell, was there during the day. The two weekends had been taken up, respectively, by first his parents then her parents. We had managed a grope here and a kiss there and talked about how we could get together but it had not happened.
