A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

It started as a quiet night at the pub. The three of us chatting and laughing over old times. It had been a while since we had been out together so there was a lot to catch up on.

I had known Beth for years; we went through school together. She and Sarah lived next door to each other. Beth had helped her through the breakdown of her relationship a couple of years before. Their closeness irritated me a little because at times I felt excluded. Tonight was different. We were relaxed and happy in each other's company.

We were onto our third drinks when the door opened and in walked my ex, Matt. My heart started to thump in my chest. He was as handsome as ever. With him were a guy I recognised from school, Tom, and a guy I didn't know. I had to make a conscious effort not to stare but when our eyes met, I couldn't look away.

After he was served, he made his way to our table, followed by his two friends.

‘Hi. Long time, no see. How are you?' he asked, smiling down at me.

‘I'm great, thanks. How are you?' I smiled back.
