The Basement By blakkatt

We had bought the old farmhouse several months after I had moved up there. It was beautiful...sitting on 6 acres, surrounded by trees, two-story, wrap around porch, lots of windows and space, and a great basement that could be refinished for a number of things. It needed a lot of work, but neither one of us minded. Jeff and I both wanted to fix it up together.

Our first nite, after we signed all the papers, Jeff brought home some wine and cheese and crackers; tossed some blankets and pillows in the car, and then tossed me in also. We drove the 45 minutes out to the house and not long after I got there he had the fire roaring and what we now refer to as our "bearskin rug" in front of it. The "rug" is a thick old blanket with a great big picture of a bear on it. It became a running joke between us, and there were many nights that we lay in front of the fire on that "rug", talking, giggling, making love, or just lying quietly, enjoying each other's company.

I was still looking for a job, after I got there, and Jeff had some vacation time coming up, so we decided to spend two weeks, making a concerted effort to getting some of the house done. There was a lot of painting to be done, and still plenty of unpacking. He had some ideas about what to do with the basement, and was down there clearing things out in preparation of that, while I was upstairs in the kitchen one ...
