I was a woman of conviction and principles - always had been, had thought I always would be. And there were two principles on which I'd always prided myself most: I didn't believe in casual sex, and I didn't believe in romantic involvements with family members of coworkers. Seth was just barely twenty-one; I was thirty-two. I'd known him since he was fifteen, when I'd joined his mother's marketing firm. I was the single girl from the East Coast, a long way from home and family of my own, and I found a special friendship with Jane, who was divorced and raising Seth alone. She'd built her business from the ground up and sacrificed a great deal to give Seth the best of everything, and I admired her for it. Jane was a firm believer in office morale, and she often had the entire staff over for barbecues or pool parties. We were one big family of our own, and I came to view Seth as a younger brother of sorts. Due to the eleven-year age difference between us, it never crossed my mind to see him as anything else. Besides, he was Jane's kid.
