Let me start by saying that I don't normally wear thongs. In the main, my underwear drawer is pretty conventional. I go for briefs, usually, plain and unadorned, with no silly cartoons or slogans on the front. I don't even like boxer shorts and the accompanying lack of support. The thing is, last Christmas my wife bought me a thong, just as a joke. I had worn it a couple of times, never outside our house, and found it surprisingly comfortable. Normally, though, it stays at the bottom of my drawer.

The other day she found it as she was putting away some clothes that she'd washed and ironed. She held it up, looking at me reproachfully as she stretched it between her hands.

"You never wear this, do you? Don't you like it?"

I didn't know quite what to say. It's a ridiculous looking thing really, a scrap of material just big enough to contain my equipment and a whole lot of strings. In additional to the usual one that sits in your bum cleft, this thong has two extra strings at the front and another two at the back, following the lines of a traditional pair of briefs. Every time I've tried it on I've had to untangle them first.

"Of course I like it. It's quite comfortable actually. It's just that I don't have that many opportunities."
