I had just finished my first year of college. Working a part-time job while going to school hadn't been easy, but living at home while saving money for books, tuition as well as a deposit for an apartment closer to the University had been very helpful. I had been looking for a place for well over a week. Nothing I'd seen so far however had been within my budget. Or if it had, it was still either too far away, or so dilapidated that I wouldn't have wished living there on my worst enemy.

I had stopped to browse the bulletin board when a young woman approached, posting a notice on it. Trying carefully not to read over her shoulder while she did, I was interested however as I saw immediately that her notice said: "Room-mate wanted!"

I guess I wasn't as sly as I thought I was being when she turned to me. "You looking for an apartment?" she asked.

"As a matter of fact...I am," I answered easily.

Up until this very moment I hadn't even considered the possibility of having a roommate. An only child, I was used to living alone for one ...
